Welcome to the Alternative Break Program!

Serve. Laugh. Work. Smile. Take pictures. Eat. Have fun. Make friends. Give back. Learn. Make a difference. Reflect. Repeat.

About Alternative Breaks

Alternative Break Trips take students outside of the Utah Valley area to engage in community projects and learn about social issues such as poverty and homelessness, food insecurity, health, literacy, environmental issues, and many more. Alternative Breaks last 4-6 days for domestic trips and may be longer in length for international trips. These student-led trips immerse students in direct service activities and learning experiences. UVU partners with Break Away, a national 501(c)3 organization that supports the development of quality alternative break programs.  More information about Break Away can be found here.

Mission:

To promote active citizenship and provide quality alternative break experiences for UVU students and the community by providing student leadership opportunities, engaging educational experiences, and direct, intentional service to the communities we serve. We aim to create positive, sustainable change within the communities we serve.

Vision:

We envision UVU students leaving our program with increased education and awareness of social issues facing their community. As a result, UVU AB alumni will be empowered to make a greater impact in their community through actively engaging in community organizations, non-profits, and civic responsibilities.
