Service-Learning Distinction Program

The Service-Learning Distinction program was created in 2002 to recognize UVU students who actively try to make a difference in their communities and seek opportunities for academic and personal growth.

Program Benefits

  • Receive honors cords for graduation ceremony
  • Permanent Service-Learning Notation on Academic Transcripts
  • Awarded with Certificate of Completion

General Program Requirements
(All requirements are dependent on which track is chosen)
  • Direct Community Service hours (not benefiting a religious, fraternal, or political party organization)
  • Take Service-Learning classes (reflection papers required)
  • Attend Civic-Skills Workshops
  • Completion of a reflective Service Journal
  • Leadership of a major service project
  • Display experience at banquet

Program Description

The Service-Learning Distinction program offers students an opportunity to interact with the community and the world through service. Participants can select from four different tracks:

  • Academic Service-Learning
  • Community-Building
  • Engaged-Department: Nursing
  • Engaged-Leadership
The Service-Learning Distinction Program site has changed.  In order to apply to the program, please follow the following instructions:

1. Go to http://www.orgsync.org and click Register (located in the top right hand corner)

2. Select Your Community: find UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY and click “Register”

3. Fill out personal information to register and press FINISH (to update or make additional changes to your account, press MY ACCOUNT)

4. Click ADD AN ORG (located on the left hand side)

5. Select Your Community: find UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY (top of page) and press ORGANIZATIONS

6. Scroll down to find Service

7. Find Service-Learning Distinction Program and click JOIN

8. In the comment box, write your name and press SUBMIT at the bottom of the page

9. Wait for approval from the Program Coordinator

10. Once approved, fill out the Application & Enrollment Form under “Tools” and “Forms” on the left side

11. The Program Coordinator will review your Application and accept you to the program

12. Continue in the program by reviewing your requirements and fulfilling them
