Testing at the Wasatch Campus

ACT Residual Exam

The ACT Residual Test is offered at the Orem Campus every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. It costs $35. All candidates must come into the UVU Orem Campus Testing Center office at least 24 hours in advance to register or if you live in the Wasatch or Summit counties you may phone. Please bring a valid government issued photo identification and your payment in cash at the time of registration. Scores to this test are only valid here at UVU. A sixty day waiting period is required before retaking the ACT Residual. For more information, please call (801)863-8269 or visit the Testing Services.

ACT National Test Dates

The Wasatch Campus will host the ACT National Exam for all 5 test dates during the 2007-2008 Academic Year. Students must contact their high school counselor or sign up on-line with ACT.

  • October 25, 2008

Placement Test (New Student Assessment)

  • Required of students who score under 19 in Math, Reading, or Writing on the ACT (under 500 on the SAT Math or Verbal sections).
  • Required of all students over the age of 21 who have never been to college before.
  • Required of transfer students who have not taken Math or English classes that transfer to UVU.
  • Retakes: The first time a student takes the placement test it is free of charge. A student is allowed one retake per semester. From the time of the first test, a student must wait one week before retesting. The cost of the retake is $10 per section.
  • Math: This is an adaptive exam that begins wtih Algebra. At UVU, calculators ar enot allowed for this exam. Many students complete the math section in 15-30 minutes. However, we recommend students plan for an hour. Study guides to review for this exam can be found on-line, in bookstores, and each high school should have thier own copy.
  • Writing: Given on the computer. Involves a series of essays that the students edit. Most students complete this exam in 30-60 minutes.
  • Reading: Taken electronically through COMPASS or E-DRP. The goal is to ensure UVU students understand college level textbooks in a variety of courses. This test will take between 30 and 60 minutes.

  • You can check out the book Charting Your Course on the COMPASS in the Wasatch Campus Library. This book must stay in the library.
  • The Wasatch Campus occasionally hosts a Kaplan test preparation. These events are free and information about the next ACT/SAT practice test sponsored by Kaplan is available at the Kaplan Website
