NEW DIGITAL MARKETING COURSES ANNOUNCED BY UVU’S WOODBURY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
The Woodbury School of Business’ marketing department at Utah Valley University is pleased to announce the addition of new digital marketing courses. Developed to prepare students to excel in digital marketing, the classes will generate an expanding pipeline of trained and experienced graduates to meet the high demands in Utah and throughout the world. Students can begin taking classes in digital marketing immediately with additional classes offered fall semester 2013.
“With the ever-changing world of marketing and communications, UVU will provide students with the skill set that Utah businesses need to succeed, especially with the new technological environment created by Utah’s ‘Silicon Slopes,’” said Paul Dishman, chair of the marketing department. “To address this need, UVU has designed a program for students looking to acquire the skills for a stimulating career in digital marketing and e-commerce.”
The curriculum will include courses such as principles of marketing, introduction to digital marketing, social media marketing, and Internet marketing and analytics. Each course is designed to include hands-on training with the critical skills of digital marketing, such as live projects that incorporate the difficulties of real-life problems and course take-aways that can be compiled into a portfolio of projects completed and skills learned.
“The new digital marketing courses will provide students with relevant knowledge and skills to propel them toward careers in a dynamic and growing industry,” said Norman Wright, dean of the Woodbury School of Business. “Students will leave UVU with the tactical skills required for entry-level positions as well as strategic knowledge needed for future management roles.”
Key skills that will be taught through engaged learning assignments and projects include search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, e-mail marketing, social media marketing, e-tailing, Web analytics, content marketing (including blogging), lead generation, and mobile marketing. Portfolio items will include two digital marketing plans written for actual companies and a professional quality blog.
Two new faculty members with special expertise in the development of digital marketing and social media education have joined the marketing department faculty. Steven Huff, assistant professor of marketing, contributes his knowledge of marketing strategy, computers, networks and the Internet to the new program. Huff is joined by Paige Gardiner, a gifted marketing lecturer, who brings real-world experience to her outstanding credentials as an educator through consulting and the execution of marketing, promotion, advertising and social media campaigns.
