Dr. Paul Dishman, Chair, Department of Marketing
Future Managers,
I want to welcome you to the UVU Marketing Department. We are excited that you are considering joining us in the challenging and intellectually fulfilling discipline of Marketing. If you are a talented individual who wants to expand both the analytical and creative hemispheres of your brain, then this might be the major for you. Professional preparation in Marketing can provide you with a wide variety of exciting and fulfilling career opportunities including advertising, product development, retailing, e-commerce, market research, and sales. These are careers that require individuals with creative problem-solving abilities and a nose for finding opportunities.
To help you prepare, our Marketing faculty not only have the highest academic qualifications, but all of us have extensive professional and industrial experience. This provides our students with real world examples, problem cases, and field studies which enhance a traditional learning environment. In the upper division classes you will work on projects for companies which will build your resume and make you a stronger potential employee. (Coincidentally, students rank our faculty high in course and teacher evaluations.)
If you would like to consider majoring in Marketing, you may visit one of the helpful people in the Woodbury Advising Center in WB 257 or chat with any of our faculty. Additionally, if you are considering conducting research in any of the areas of marketing, please contact a faculty member directly about your area of interest.
For current information about events in the department and to view short, informative videos about our program, please become our friend on Facebook at the UVU Marketing student group.
Whatever your major, you will want to register for our introductory class, MGMT (soon to be MKTG) 3600. It is our Principles of Marketing class and it will provide you an excellent overview of marketing management, advertising, product development, and competitive strategy. It is a great class to get an overview of Marketing and Business in general.
If I can be of any service to you, please feel free to contact me at pdishman@uvu.edu or 801.863.7198.
And I'll look for you sitting on the front row,
Paul Dishman, Ph.D., Chair
