U: Drive Access
Each student has a 'U' drive (User drive) which is available campus-wide from any standard school workstation. In order to access your U drive from off campus you will need to use an FTP program. While you may use any FTP client such as CuteFTP or WS FTP, the easiest way is to use Internet Explorer.
Step 1
Open Internet Explorer and type the following in the address bar:
ftp://ftp.uvsc.edu/
(Please be careful not to type http://ftp.uvsc.edu or ftp://ftp.business.uvsc.edu. This will not work and is a common mistake).
Step 2
Next you will need to click File on the menu bar and select Login As…
Step 3
The final step is to login. You need to enter your username and password. This is the same username and password you use to log into the network in the computer labs on campus.
*Note: You may need to enter your username with the full context and with a leading "dot" (ex: .10012345.stu.uvsc).
Security notice
Standard FTP servers do not implement encryption, therefore it is possible for others to capture your username and password while they are being transmitted over the network. Because of this we do not suggest using FTP to access your U: when connected using wireless on campus, which is also unencrypted.
