The Utah Valley University & Community Writing Centers are hosting the 2nd incarnation of the "Write Outside Yourself" Young Adult Story Writing Contest! Student writers in junior high/middle school and high school can compete for a chance to be published in print and recognized at a celebration in June 2015.

If living were a simple journey from A to B, our lives wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. Obstacles and challenges force us to grow and learn, take on new responsibilities and skills. From becoming a Jedi Knight to earning a learners permit, rites of passage teach us about failure, triumph, and the journey from weakness to strength.
This year, the UVU Writing Center is calling for “writes of passage”—stories about growing up, coming into power, and overcoming challenges. Non-fiction accounts, autobiographical stories, and fantasy/sci-fi fiction are all welcome.
Story themes include but are not limited to:

Stories will be judged in a double-blind reading by a panel of Utah Valley University judges, and 10-15 winners will be selected for print publication!
