Accessibility Service’s learning specialist empowers students with disabilities by helping them find resources and long-term strategies that will help them meet their educational goals. The specialist also supports the general UVU student body by offering free workshops and creating handouts and materials (available below).

Access to one-on-one sessions and open office hours are currently available to all Accessibility Services students . One-on-one sessions can be scheduled here. Open office hours are drop-in based.

Workshop are open to all students, regardless of status. We hope to see you at an upcoming event!

Learning Specialist Open Office Hours

Learning Specialist open office hours are a great opportunity to drop in for a quick question or get additional practice with learning strategies. All Accessibility Services students are welcome!

Note: Like the one-on-one appointments, the open office hours are not tutoring or test prep. Instead, they are intended to help you find the resources and learn the strategies that will help you find success for yourself.

Because multiple students may be present at once, open office hours are not confidential.

Notetaking with Glean (ONLY for students with ACcessibility Services, TRIO, or Academic STandards)

Description:

Students with Accessibility Services, Trio, and Academic Standards have the option to use Glean, a powerful and convenient digital notetaking app. With Glean, you can record your classes so that you can relisten to them at your pace in the future—or convert them to readable text if you prefer written notes. You can also add in pictures, definitions, headings, and much more. According to a survey conducted by Glean, 95% of students who use the app say that it helps improve how they learn, and 90% report improving their grades.

 

This workshop provide an in-depth explanation of the app and its features to help you get the most out of your notetaking. Plus, there will be snacks!

Christian Heftel

Meet the Learning Specialist

Hi! My name is Christian Heftel, and I’m excited to be serving as UVU Accessibility Services’ Learning Specialist. I have a long and eclectic history as a student and instructor. I have a BA in English from BYU, but I’ve also been a Latin tutor, a German tutor, a research assistant, a speech-to-text transcriber, a kung fu teacher, a personal trainer, and more. Outside of work, I love rock climbing, foreign languages, spending time with my family, training, and playing retro video games.

I’m here to help empower students to take ownership of their education and support them as they create their own path to success. Your pathway to success may not look like everyone else’s, and that’s okay. What matters is that you find it and that it’s yours. I hope that some of the things that I’ve found along my way can help you as you are finding yours. 😊 I hope to see you at a workshop!
