UVU’s School of the Arts to Put On Child-Friendly Performance for Public

UVU is proud to present a multi-departmental production made specifically for children. Carnival of the Animals will be shown in the Ragan Theater on October 4th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available at uvu.edu/thearts.

Under the direction of assistant professor Doug Smith, and in conjunction with the departments of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts, this production features music and humor appropriate for all ages. Camilee Saint-Saens’ musical suite is brought to life by the extraordinary efforts of students from all areas of the college. A show that combines all the talent of our entire college is something you don’t want to miss. Not only are there monkeys, lions, elephants, and kangaroos (oh my!), but also two original pieces based on The Ugly Duckling and The Grinch.

With over 37,000 students at UVU, many of our students are non-traditional and have kids of their own. UVU’s omnibus survey results from Fall 2016 showed over 18% of students have children at home. On average, students report having over 2 kids with 62% of them being between ages 0-4. With this many kids in UVU’s own system, a show aimed specifically at them is something we are proud to present.

Smith stated this performance will be a “dazzling, humorous, energetic, one-nighty only event perfect for families!” Children will delight in these classic tales of self-acceptance, identity, and kindness which are brought to life with music, dance, and animation.

Preschool age and up children will be admitted with tickets. Please no babies or babes in arms. Carnival of the Animals’ 60 minute performance will be on October 4th at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at uvu.edu/thearts.
