UVU Department of Music Presents the Annual Fall Choral Showcase to Honor Catholic Community in Utah County

The Utah Valley University Department of Music proudly presents its annual Fall Choral Showcase, which will be held on October 5th at 7:30 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Tickets for this event may be purchased online at uvu.edu/thearts.

The Showcase will be the opening event of the UVU Choral Program and will feature performances by the three auditioned choirs from the Music Department, as well as solo performances by graduating seniors Cassie Clark (contemporary music, soprano) and Aaron Walker (vocal performance, tenor). The chamber choir, women’s choir, and men’s choir will be honoring the 150th anniversary of the Catholic faith’s community in Utah.

In 1892 Bishop Scanlan remodeled a Provo residence into a chapel-rectory, which later became modern day Saint Francis of Assisi. It was in 1955 when this church opened its doors as a school, which taught students for nearly 20 years until it closed in 1971. St. Francis still exists today as a church in predominantly Mormon Provo, Utah.

Reed Criddle, associate professor and director of choral activities, will be directing the performance. About this showcase, Criddle has said, “These students come from all over campus, from a wide range of majors, with a collective passion for singing and the choral experience.” Audience members should expect to experience a wide variety of music in various languages. To further honor the Catholic community and their church, several selections come from the 12th and 13th centuries by way of the Italian friar, and church’s namesake, St. Francis of Assisi.

The Fall Choral Showcase will be a wonderful way to welcome in the season and is great for all audiences. The showcase will be presented on October 5th at 7:30 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Tickets are available online at uvu.edu/thearts.
