UVU Continues New Jazz Jam Series with Guest David Halliday

The Utah Valley University Music Department proudly presents the October Jazz Jam Series with David Halliday. The Jazz Jam will be held on October 10th at 7:30 PM in Centre Stage on UVU’s campus. Tickets are available at uvu.edu/thearts.

The Jazz Jam Series aims to bring UVU students together in appreciation of a great musical genre. Dr. Alex Heitlinger, assistant professor and director of jazz and contemporary performance, stated, “We wanted to create an all-ages jazz jam session in Utah County to help connect UVU student musicians with the local jazz scene.”

This Jazz Jam will feature David Halliday, a tenor saxophonist from California. Halliday got his start at a young age while studying with multi-Grammy winner and saxophone legend Joe Henderson in his home in San Francisco. Halliday came to Utah Valley to get his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance with an Emphasis in Jazz Studies from BYU. He later got his Masters in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Utah. He has been featured in various TV shows, played in large sporting events, and sat in with famous musicians. Halliday has performed across the world and the United States.

As part of the effort to engage students with jazz, Halliday, one of the top saxophonists in Utah, will be playing with students for the first 45 minutes of the performance. As the show closes, audience members may be invited up to join in the “jam” with their own instruments. Audience members should prepare to “sit in” by bringing their own instruments and remembering jazz etiquette and rules.

Students and community members will love this series for its great jazz music, world class guest performer, and interactive components. The performance will happen on October 10th at 7:30pm on UVU’s Centre Stage. Tickets for the event are available at uvu.edu/thearts.
