Jazz Jam October

'I Never Saw Another Butterfly'

Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, and only about a hundred were still alive when Terezin was liberated at the end of the war. One of the survivors, Raja, having lived through it all, tells the true story of the children. She gave them hope when there was little enough reason for hope, creating a little world of laughter, of flowers and butterflies behind the barbed wire.

What Type

What Type, curated by Brandon Truscott and Jim Godfrey, is a survey of current conceptual and aesthetic design-making that focuses primarily on typography and hand-lettering that reflects a typographic revival.

Fall Choral Showcase

October 4

The UVU Choirs ring in a new academic year with a mixture of world premieres and music choral classics.  You will not want to miss the Senior Spotlight, featuring senior Holly Michelsen and brand-new UVU music faculty Ryan Nielsen performing Handel's stunning aria "Eternal Source of Light Divine." for soprano and trumpet.

October Jazz Jam

October 8

Jam sessions have always provided jazz musicians a way to "cut their teeth" and push each other to play their best. This new monthly music series gives UVU music students and local jazz musicians the chance to create spontaneous performances as only jazz musicians can. This month's jam features Kris Johnson, a trumpeter from The Count Basie Orchestra with two Grammy nominations under his belt.

inclUTion: From a Dark Millennium

October 10

The UVU Wind Symphony kicks off its season of inclusion by looking back on the history of band repertoire and its growth as a viable medium of artistic expression. Significant transcriptions from Bernstein, Hindemith, and Arnold open the concert and spotlight this year’s Global Initiative country, while progressive works from Joseph Schwantner and Vincent Persichetti close the concert.

Symphony Classics

October 16

Return to the classics enjoying the dramatic, lyrical and rich panorama of ravishing and exciting orchestra colors. This concert will reflect the experiences and emotions of the great composers, a lovingly curated evening providing just a few snapshots of the genius’ kaleidoscopic careers.  Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7 will be featured work of the night.

Utah Metropolitan Ballet 'Tribute'

October 26-27

Utah Metropolitan Ballet is known for the way in which they recognize innovative new choreographers that enrich our cultural landscape. This year they will bring together four local choreographers who will create new works honoring four members of our community who have contributed significantly to the arts in our area.

Jazz Combo Showcase

Enjoy the intimate club feeling of live Jazz music with this delightful showcase of UVU's Jazz Combo. Featuring small groups playing classic and modern styles, come experience the freedom and expression of jazz without limits.
