ART 3740 is a junior level class that serves a few purposes. First, it is meant to
give students the opportunity to try their hand at creating a comprehensive project
before they start their BFA project. Second, it is meant to help students understand
not only contemporary photography and their relationship to it. Thirdly, and most
important it helps students figure out how to use photography as a means of communication
and expression. They must not only work to consistently improve the quality and effectiveness
of their photography but also do the same with how they talk about their work in the
form of an artist statement. Lastly, they work on being more proficient in critically
discussing the work of others. Instructor is Travis Lovell.
There will be a group exhibit of the classes work which will include each of the students
projects on the fifth floor of the UVU Library during the month of September. The
show is entitled Illuminations and there will be an artists reception on the night
of Wednesday September 5th. Here is a small sampling of the students work and an even smaller sampling of their
respective projects.
