The first week of May, students from the Art & Visual Communications department took a trip to New York City. 20 students and 4 faculty. From photography we had Emily Sanderson, Kimber Haws, Yandhi Reynoso, Kwangtae Kim, Jake Buntjer, Loren Peterson and Travis Lovell as the faculty member. It was an amazing trip and we were fortunate to see a lot of great photography and meet some incredible photographers. Here comes the travel log:
- We met with photographers Rodney Smith, Sarah Silver, Joey Moon, Chris Lindsay, and Roland Bello.
- We went to some of the classic museums in NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and International Center of Photography.
- We went to a number of smaller galleries to see exhibits by Arno Minkkinen, Nick Brandt, Richard Avedon, the VII Gallery, and an exhibit of pictorialist photographers such as Alfred Steiglitz, Edward Steichen and Heinrich Kuhn.
- Not to mention much of the requisite tourist activities such as Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, top of the Empire State Building (completely fogged in), Times Square, Central Park, a showing of Wicked on Broadway, Grimaldi's Pizzeria, and others.
Here are a small sampling of some of the images created. Type hashtag #avcinnyc into an Instagram search to see a lot more.
