Dear High School Dance Teacher,

Utah Valley University would like to invite you and your students to spend Friday, November 22, 2019 discovering the vast array of dance and dance education opportunities our program has to offer. UVU Department of Dance is proud of our 4 baccalaureate degrees in dance:

  1. BFA in Dance, Ballet emphasis
  2. BS in Dance, Ballroom emphasis
  3. BFA in Dance, Modern emphasis
  4. BS in Dance Education

Additionally, we offer the two-year AS in Dance. The focus of the workshop this year will be to reflect the merging of the disciplines through our workshop class offerings.  Our program is at the cutting edge of Baccalaureate education in that we have a combined core program for all dance majors.  The Department of Dance at UVU is growing in rigor and esteem and is proud of the exceptional professional faculty with distinctive experience in prestigious national and international companies. Their expertise in performance, choreography, pedagogy, and scholarly research provides unprecedented opportunities for the students in the Department of Dance. This year our students will be performing with Repertory Dance Theatre in April at the Rose Wagner Theater in SLC, traveling to California to compete in the Embassy Ball Championships and participating in side by side research at the Minidoka Internment Camp in Idaho, developing a piece based on Japanese Internment for regional performances. We are excited to introduce your students to what UVU has to offer, as well as provide an engaging way for your students to experience the many dance opportunities at UVU.

During the workshop, your students will have the chance to take classes, meet the faculty, see an informal showing featuring many of the performing groups at UVU, and participate in a discussion with Department Chair, Doris Hudson de Trujillo.

In order to introduce students to the four degrees offered at UVU and accommodate the large numbers that the workshop attracts, your students will be guaranteed a space in their choice of one of the following classes: Modern/Contemporary, Ballet or Ballroom, these classes will occur throughout the day. The other class will be randomly assigned; it is our hope that this will allow your students to gain instruction in their area of interest as well as experience in another dance form.  We will make sure that no dancer is alone in an assigned class without some members of their school.

The UVU School of the Arts has transitioned to an online registration format for all workshops.  The link below will take you to a site that has this welcome letter and instructions for making a reservation as well as a schedule for the day.  It is our hope that the online registration will make life easier.  Please contact me with any questions.

The workshop is designed to give your students an experience that will communicate the great excitement we have for our department and our firm conviction that Utah Valley University is going to be the place for your students to continue their dance education and build on the foundation you have provided for them.  The faculty at Utah Valley University hopes to see you and your students at our High School Workshop.  We believe that you will find the workshop of benefit to your dance students, especially those contemplating a future in dance.

Sincerely,

Angie Banchero-Kelleher
