Utah Valley University
November 20, 2020

Dear High School Dance Teacher,

Utah Valley University would like to invite you and your students to spend Friday, November 20, 2020 discovering virtually the vast array of dance and dance education opportunities our program has to offer. The UVU Department of Dance is proud of our four baccalaureate degrees in dance: (1) BFA in Dance, Modern emphasis, (2) BFA in Dance, Ballet emphasis, (3) BS in Dance Education and (4) BS in Dance, Ballroom emphasis. Additionally, we offer the two-year AS in Dance.

The focus of the workshop this year will be to reflect the many ways that dance education is continuing during a pandemic through our live streaming workshop class offerings. Our program is at the cutting edge of Baccalaureate education in that we have a combined core program for all dance majors. The Department of Dance at UVU is growing in rigor and esteem and is proud of the exceptional professional faculty with distinctive experience in prestigious national and international companies. Their expertise in performance, choreography, pedagogy, and scholarly research provides unprecedented opportunities for the students in the Department of Dance. While the pandemic has necessitated the rescheduling of several substantial projects, our department continues to engage with the field in significant ways and is poised to emerge with several projects ready to go, including student performances with Diavolo and Repertory Dance Theatre in 2021. We are excited to introduce your students to all that UVU has to offer, as well as provide an engaging way for your students to experience the many dance opportunities at UVU.

During the workshop, your students will have the chance to take classes, meet the faculty, see an informal showing featuring many of the performing groups at UVU, and participate in a discussion with Department Chair, Doris Hudson de Trujillo.

This year, the workshop will exist in a live streaming format using the ZOOM platform. The link for the class will be sent to you in the confirmation letter you will receive after you register for the workshop.

The UVU School of the Arts has transitioned to an online registration format for all workshops. The link below will take you to a site that has this welcome letter and instructions for making a reservation, as well as a schedule for the day. It is our hope that the online registration will make life easier. We are making accommodations to past workshop schedules in order to more adequately fit into the schedules that are most common in the UT High School daily schedule. Please contact me with any questions.

The workshop is designed to give your students an experience that will communicate the great excitement we have for our department and our firm conviction that Utah Valley University is going to be the place for your students to continue their dance education and build on the foundation you have provided for them. The faculty at Utah Valley University hopes to see you and your students at our High School Workshop. We believe that you will find the workshop of benefit to your dance students, especially those contemplating a future in dance.

Below is the schedule. We will be offering the same classes every 50 minutes on the hour in order to attempt to align with some of the classes in your HS setting. When you go to the website to register, you will be directed to select the particular class/es you want and then you will fill in YOUR email and the names/emails of the students attending. Lastly, we understand that we are all anticipating the best, but preparing for the worst. In the event that your school is online by the time of the workshop, you will be able to send the link to your students and they can join from home. PLEASE alert me if you will be sending the links to students at home in order that we may confirm that we can accommodate that number under the original link sent. (We will email an additional link if necessary).
