Utah Valley University
November 19, 2021

Dear High School Dance Teacher,

Utah Valley University would like to invite you and your students to spend Friday, November 19, 2021 discovering the vast array of dance and dance education opportunities our program has to offer. UVU Department of Dance is proud of our 4 baccalaureate degrees in dance: (1) BFA in Dance, Modern emphasis, (2) BFA in Dance, Ballet emphasis, (3) BS in Dance Education and (4) BS in Dance, Ballroom emphasis. Additionally, we offer the two-year AS in Dance. Our program is at the cutting edge of Baccalaureate education in that we have a combined core program for all dance majors. The Department of Dance at UVU is growing in rigor and esteem and is proud of the exceptional professional faculty with distinctive experience in prestigious national and international companies. Their expertise in performance, choreography, pedagogy, and scholarly research provides unprecedented opportunities for the students in the Department of Dance.

The pandemic has required dancers to be flexible, not only in body, but spirit, as well! This year the workshop will be in person, but with a shorter schedule to accommodate guest teacher requests for Covid safety practices. UVU does not require, but would appreciate all students wearing masks, as all UVU instructors at the workshop will be masked and vaccinated. Your safety is a top concern. Following Covid guidelines has allowed UVU to continue with several large projects that have been in the works for over a year; this year we will be performing Steps in the Street by Martha Graham with Repertory Dance Theatre. Additionally, 20 of our students will be performing at the Rose Wagner in January as guest dancers performing the choreography of RDT company members. We are excited to introduce your students to all that UVU has to offer, as well as provide an engaging way for your students to experience the many dance opportunities at UVU.

During the workshop, your students will have the chance to take a class, meet the faculty, see an informal showing featuring many of the performing groups at UVU, and participate in a discussion with Department Chair, Monica Campbell. The UVU Dance Department would also like to encourage you to take advantage of our discount pricing for the RDT/RW CELEBRATION OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE concert at the Noorda, November 5-6, 2021, Smith Theater, Noorda Center. The following link will take you to the Noorda website for the purchase of tickets to the show. This discount is available to all Utah High School students regardless of participation in the workshop. Tickets are limited, so get yours today!

The workshop is designed to give your students an experience that will communicate the great excitement we have for our department and our firm conviction that Utah Valley University is going to be the place for your students to continue their dance education and build on the foundation you have provided for them. The faculty at Utah Valley University hopes to see you and your students at our High School Workshop. We believe that you will find the workshop of benefit to your dance students, especially those contemplating a future in dance.
