Family Science BA & BS Degree
This discipline provides focused learning on family dynamics and systems. The knowledge and skills you'll learn will prepare you for a variety of careers and graduate programs. Topics studied include: family law, parenting, marriage, human development, family life education, human sexuality, and other areas. Students often obtain internships where they can gain practical work and graduate school experience while developing lessons and teaching family life skills in the community.
The Family Science Program at Utah Valley University is affiliated with the National Council on Family Relations. Students can join as student members. Graduates find themselves skilled as ethical teachers of families from all walks of life and many diverse family contexts.
Our students have a unique opportunity to be trained in a research-based family life education program and directly apply their knowledge with families in our community. Students leave this program with skills that will strengthen any resume.
Our students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work in family and relationship settings such as program administration, family life education, and case work. Students will also be prepared to enter graduate programs in marriage and family therapy or human development.
Our degree is approved by the National Council on Family Relationships to obtain the Certified Family Life Education Certification. Students can graduate with an added certification on their resume to further set them apart from their peers.
