Equipment & Workout Areas

The fitness and strength workout areas are located on the 3rd and 4th floor of the Student Life & Wellness Center. There are five different areas that include the following:

  • Beginner circuit area
  • Selectorized strength equipment
  • Plate Loaded equipment
  • Variety of cardiovascular fitness pieces

*All fitness equipment supplied by  Advanced Fitness. The SLWC fitness areas include pieces from the Life Fitness Discovery SE top of line series, as well as Hammer Strength.

Yoga

Move through relaxing routines to help ease your stress, by focusing on your breathing and performing fluid body movements.

High Fitness

A fun, hardcore fitness class that provides a high caloric burn and full-body toning! Get moving with easy to follow fitness choreography that alternates between intense cardio peaks and toning tracks.

Pilates

Learn exercises using core stabilization, muscle balance, proper alignment, strength, and flexibility.

PiYo

A high intensity combination of Pilates and Yoga style movements. Come enjoy this class for some quality strength and flexibility training! 

Spin

Torch calories in this intense workout fit for athletes and beginners alike! Easy to adjust to beginner through advanced levels, all in the same class. 

Zumba

Dance to great music, burn a ton of calories, and have fun while doing it! Bring your best dance moves to this Latin-style dance fitness class. 

Insanity

Come get a full body workout with this high intensity class that combines cardio, strength training, and plyometrics in an interval format. Intervals can be modified for all skill levels!

U-JAM

New to UVU! U-Jam is a high energy dance fitness class that mixes moves from all over the world with an urban, hip hop style. 
Wellbeats

Insanity Weights

Kick things up a notch by adding weights to your Insanity workout! All fitness levels welcome!

Wellbeats

Innovative fitness classes provided in an on-demand video format. All classes are available in various skill level and content is updated every six weeks. Below are the Wellbeats classes:

Kinetics

Multi-activity class includes sport-style cardio intervals interspersed with resistance training circuits and muscle isolation work

Express

Short, intense workouts that deliver results in minimal timeframe. All you need is 20 minutes

Transitions

Cardio, resistance training, balance, mobility and awareness skills that can positively impact those in the 45+ market

Fusion

Yoga and Pilates moves, with attention to breath, form, flow and body balance

Vibe

Latin to urban, hip hop and more classes take the party to the floor and you’ll forget you’re exercising

Stomp

Go up, over and around the step for a total-body, cardio-driven workout

TKO

A combination of punches, kicks, strikes and techniques for a great knockout experience

Definitions

Multi-dimensional and isolated total-body training utilizing the best of today’s leading sculpt techniques

Sheree Thayne - Insanity & HIGH Fitness

 
Sheree Thayne

Sheree is UVU Alumni and works part-time at UVU. She is a mother of 3 and lives in Salem, Utah. Sheree started her love for fitness in 2014. She is recognized for her outstanding energy, latest routines and hottest music! Sheree loves the feeling of making people healthy, happy and achieving positive changes in their lives. She feels everyone starting a new workout program or joining a gym should be excited and invited; not intimidated. She strongly expresses thoughts and insights as to whatever shape, size or level you are, you can achieve YOUR own personal goals. Sheree is all about the journey, being true to yourself and teaching others they are only in competition with themselves. Her drive for High Fitness and Insanity certifications gives her the expertise to help you reach your goals.

Alexandria Leyva - HIGH Fitness

 
Alexandria Leyva

Alexandria is wife to Nick, and feels she has the best job staying home to take care of their two little boys. She is passionate about all kinds of fitness and taking care of the beautiful bodies we have been given. Alex loves to push herself to new levels and help others do the same. She not only promises high energy, a good sweat, and a great time in her HIGH Fitness class but a welcoming environment for all body types and fitness levels. She finds great joy in helping others gain a love for fitness and how to take care of their bodies, and she especially loves helping others realize how truly incredible they already are. When Alex is not teaching she is enjoying her family, the outdoors, decorating, and cooking.

Jessica Martin - Spin

Jessica grew up in Orem, Utah and is a UVU alumnus. She graduated in physical education and exercise science. Exercise and fitness has been her passion her whole life! She has been teaching water aerobics and spin classes at the Orem Fitness Center for the last three years. She loves to help others reach goals and have fun through physical fitness. When she is not busy teaching classes, she can be found exploring, traveling, or doing house projects with her husband and three kids.

Jenny Warner - High Fitness

Jenny’s love for fitness started because of her dance background. She has been a dancer for over 17 years now and growing up it was always important for her to maintain a healthy and athletic lifestyle to compete at her best. She has been able to audition and be a part of many incredible dance productions and teams throughout her life including being on her High School’s Dance Company and State Winning Drill Team as well as Utah State University's Dance Company. Once she graduated High School, she found High Fitness and fell in love with it! She loved how challenging of a workout it was, yet how fun, energetic and encouraging the environment was! She has been taking High Fitness classes for almost three years and has trained under some of the High Fitness Guru’s as well as one of the Owners of High Fitness. This last year she was encouraged by some High Fitness Instructors to also become certified, so she did and is so excited to be able to teach something she is so passionate about! She says her goal is that everyone will leave her class with a new love for themselves and High Fitness!

Kiera Davis – PiYo

 
Kiera Davis

Kiera is certified in personal training and PiYo. She loves PiYo because it incorporates a cardio workout, balance, strength, and flexibility all in one— making you feel on top of the world! Kiera is studying Community Health here at UVU, and she enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, and anything else outdoors. Her motto to live by: “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

Rita Morrill – Spin

 
Rita Morrill

Rita was born and raised in Newport Beach, California and moved to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and has always had a passion for health and wellness. She has been teaching SPIN for over 4 years and started at UVU when the SLWC opened. When she is not working and teaching SPIN, she loves to cook, run, hike, and go on adventures with her new husband. Come try her fun and high-energy class, no matter what your fitness level is!

Maggie Durnall – Spin

Maggie grew up in Rescue, California, a beautiful town near South Lake Tahoe. She is currently attending UVU, majoring in Accounting. Though she has a love for numbers, she has an even greater love for bikes! She has been mountain biking for as long as she can remember and picked up road biking along the way. Since moving to Utah, the snow has kept her from riding her bike most days in the winter, so she found spinning to occupy her time and stay in shape. Her classes focus on functional training that can be used out on the roads. Whether you are a seasoned spinner or new to the game, her class is perfect for everybody.

Andrea McAffee – Insanity

Since 2010 Andrea has always been involved in fitness and athletics. Coaching tennis, qualifying for the Boston Marathon, and finishing a 100 mile race in the Wasatch Mountains are some of her favorite accomplishments. Andrea’s high enthusiasm and ability to always “bring it” ensures you will always have a fun benefitting workout. You will truly be tested in her “Insane” workouts, but not left without options. Come join the party and build muscle while burning fat.

Kim Reynolds – Spin & Yoga

 
Kim Reynolds

Kim has been teaching yoga for ten years, and trained under Dana Baptist. She loves practicing and teaching all types of yoga, but her favorite is power yoga. Kim also teaches climbers at the indoor climbing gym, Momentum. The main classes she teaches is Yoga for Athletes and Gentle Flow. Kim enjoys playing outside and my favorite hobbies include mountain biking, climbing, skiing and spending time with my family.

Aubrie Black - Zumba

This is Aubrie's first semester teaching at UVU. She grew up dancing in private studios, dance companies in high school and even danced at UVU for a little bit. Aubrie loves to perform so becoming a Zumba instructor was one of the best things she's done. She found Zumba in 2015 and hasn't stopped taking classes sense. Aubrie wants to share the fun rhythms, great music, and awesome dance moves with everyone from a very beginner level to advanced dancers. Her Zumba class will leave you feeling like your best self!

Sadie Hieftje – Yoga

Sadie started practicing yoga, like many for the physical benefits, in 2005. It didn't take long before yoga not only helped her physically, but it brought her peace, inner strength and the physical and mental clarity she hadn't known she needed. After 11 years she decided to deepen her practice by receiving her 500 hour Yoga Teacher certification through Yoga Alliance. In her Yin classes she focuses on inner stillness, body awareness, strength, mindfulness and relaxation, using gravity to relax into each pose. Her classes are accessible to first timers and the more seasoned yogi. Yin brings balance, relaxation and mindfulness. Sadie’s classes are a perfect compliment too a busy, active lifestyle. She is a mother to a sweet baby boy and loves to spend time with family, garden, run and hike when she is not doing yoga.

Tiffany Herlin – Zumba

Whether you love to dance or always wanted to be able to dance then Zumba is the place to come! Anyone can shake it in a judgment free zone. Tiffany is passionate about life, a seeker of happiness, a mother, social worker, promoter of health and fitness, and Zumba enthusiast! She has been dancing since childhood and hasn't stopped since. Tiffany’s experience has ranged from ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, swing, country swing, and Polynesian Dancing. She received her AFAA certification in 2007 and her Zumba certification in 2008. Zumba is her personal therapy, and it’s the one hour she’s able to let loose and feel joy as she bonds with all who attend her class! Come dance your cares away with Tiff, and leave smiling. No dance skills necessary!

Elaine Moss - Zumba

Elaine has taught at UVU since 2015. She started as a dancer with a passion to share. This included participation on the UVU Dancesport Ballroom Team, and the campus’s Hip-Hop classes and club. When she discovered Zumba, her heart found home. Founded on world rhythms, with a class centered on support, self-love, and the celebration of diversity, she worked from “the shy person” in the back row to instructor. She works to provide an environment that disguises fitness in the form of ENJOYMENT, PARTY, FUN. Not only will your body feel better but your emotions more manageable and life all around better. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget!

Chloe Smith – Zumba

Chloe has enjoyed exercising and fitness her entire life, however it wasn’t until college she discovered Zumba and her love for dance-fitness began. She received her certification in 2018 and loves the benefits a fun, full-body workout has for EVERYONE regardless of size or activity level. Even before her certification she would spend her free time at home making and recording new routines. Chloe loves smoothies, living a healthy lifestyle, and is currently attending UVU to obtain her degree in School Health Education. She wants to share her love of dance-fitness with everyone she can and aims to help others in her class have fun while improving mental health and physical wellness through Zumba.
