Chinese Students Chefs Invade Culinary Arts Department


More than twenty high school students from Taiwan recently spent eight days as the guests of The College of Technology and Computing. The students, from Paul Hsu Senior High School in Taoyan, Taiwan, got an intensive 5 day course of instruction at the UVU Culinary Arts Institute. The students were taught the “American” way of cooking a variety of meals and dishes.
“All of our students have truly enjoyed being here and learning from such prominent chefs,” said school Principal Pamela Chiang, one of the chaperones on the trip.
The group’s trip had to be rescheduled due to the tsunami in Japan as their original plans had them going through the troubled country. Despite the many changes involved, the group was still able to accomplish everything they had originally planned.
Along with spending time with the Culinary Arts staff, the students also toured the UVU main campus and made a quick day trip to the Arches National Park.
“Tremendous kids, very well behaved and eager to learn,” said Peter Sproul, Culinary Art Department Chair. “I think we just might be seeing some of them here again as UVU students very soon.”
