Eleven National Champs from T&C Lead UVU to National Title at 2015 SkillsUSA

The College of Technology & Computing students once again led the way as UVU won the national title at the 51st Annual SkillsUSA National Championships held June 22-26 in Louisville, Kentucky. Showcasing their career and technical skills, eleven T&C students came away as national champions, earning  gold medals in their competitions. In addition, three other T&C students finished second in the nation, winning silver medals. Additionally, six more T&C students finished third in the nation, earning bronze medals.  Those 20 T&C students who earned medals helped lead UVU to a first place finish in the nation.  During the last 15 years, UVU has always been ranked among the top three in the nation thanks mainly to T&C students.

Impressively, 30 T&C students who competed in Louisville ultimately finished in the nation’s top-10 in their respective competitions!

“This speaks volumes about the quality of students, faculty and programs we have at T&C,” said Darin Taylor, coordinator of UVU’s SkillsUSA. “I was impressed with how well our students represented not only UVU but the state of Utah. They were very committed and serious about their competitions and did their absolute best to win their respective competitions.”

Nearly 6,000 students from across the nation competed in over 100 different trade, technical and management fields. The UVU students competed in 28 of the categories. “To bring this into perspective, there were 46 states that did not earn as many post-secondary national medals as UVU did as a single institution,” said Taylor.
