In recognition of your amazing accomplishments, the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the 2020 valedictorian, and faculty from throughout the college would like to wish you congratulations!

Dean Steven Clark Applauding at Graduation

Hello, I’m Steven Clark, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

I want to congratulate each of you on your achievement. Your graduation represents years of effort, invested in your goal to get to this day.

Education, done well, is not a product, or a diploma, or an event that ends today, it is an on ongoing process in which people are transformed by the knowledge and skills they obtain, across their entire lives. We celebrate one part of your education, the formal education that you received at Utah Valley University.

The goal of our college is to prepare you for success in life by providing you with flexible intellectual tools. As you have come through our programs, you have gained disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to communicate orally and in writing. You should be well positioned to further your education, your profession, and your life.

You will move on from UVU, but I hope it is with recognition that UVU has prepared you well, and that you have a solid foundation. Remember never to stop learning and growing.

Celebrate. Stay in touch. And most all, congratulations graduates of 2020!

  • Non-standard vehicles will not be permitted in the area. (i.e.: trailers, buses, RV’s, boats, etc…)
  • Graduates should plan to wear their graduation regalia (e.g., caps, gowns, tassels, and cords). There will not be a changing area.
  • As the vehicles proceed through the parking lot, graduates will be instructed to exit the car to enter a line in preparation for crossing the stage.
  • Only graduates may exit the car when receiving their diploma cover.  All other family members and friends must stay inside their car.
  • When the graduate is ready to cross the stage, the graduate will walk up to the stage, have their name read aloud, and take one diploma cover from the table at the stage.
  • Graduates may pause for a photo as they cross the stage. Family is encouraged to take the graduates photo from their vehicle.
  • Upon leaving the stage, the graduate will get back in their car and leave the parking and proceed to the commencement ceremony area.
  • Graduates may choose to wear health/safety masks and gloves.  Any adults or graduates that are ill or showing symptoms of sickness must stay home.
  • All traffic will be directed towards the Library/ Clarke Building for the remainder of the celebration. You do NOT want to miss the pre-show, ceremony, and fabulous fireworks display!
  • Attendees are encouraged to remain in their vehicles to enjoy the commencement ceremonies.
  • Please be courteous and kind to all community members on the road.  Drivers make sure to be attentive to road conditions and drive carefully through the automotive procession; be prepared for stop-and-go traffic.  We want to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone.
