I am one of the academic advisor’s in the Communication department. I worked in the construction industry for 25 years along side my now ex-husband. We built commercial buildings and many custom homes in Las Vegas and Southern Utah. We were in the Parade of Homes for three years in a row and won many awards.
When my personal life changed and I found myself without a means to support myself I had a friend that said that I should go to college and get a degree, which I immediately refused to do. But, she was very convincing and I started that journey at Dixie State College and received my AS degree there. I then moved to Provo, where I grew up and had graduated from Provo High, and started by BS degree at UVU, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Communication/Speech Comm.
While being a TA for Dr. Nancy Tobler, I was asked to apply for the advising position in that department, which I did and now have been doing for the last 2 ½ years. I have loved working with the faculty and the students and find it very satisfying. But, things are always changing and now I find that starting in the Spring of 2014, I will be doing a Master’s program in Liberal Arts program with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. This will also allow me to be able to teach at UVU, which I find very enjoyable.
I am the mother of four adult children and seven grandchildren. Life is good.
