FAQ:

What if I want more RAM, a bigger hard drive, etc. for a model offered by the computer shop?

Create a Special Order listing the computer model you want with the specifications you need.

How do I create a special order?
  1. Click on Special Order
  2. Once back in the Wolverine Marketplace, add external notes to the order.
  3. Include any information you can about the special order, including links and descriptions. Add a quote number if available.
  4. Include the estimated price of the order.

** A 10% charge will be assessed to system special orders (excluding Apple).

How long will it take to get a special order?

Special Order delivery time can take from 1 to 4 weeks depending on item availability.

What docking stations will work with my computer?

If you have a Lenovo computer you can find the compatible docks listed under the laptop in the accessories section on the Wolverine Marketplace.

They are also listed on the Computer Shop website or Lenovo's website.

What warranty comes with computers purchased through the Computer Shop?

All Lenovo computers come with a 3 year on-site warranty included in the price of the computer. The warranty starts from the time the shop receives the system. The Computer Shop utilizes a first-in, first-out method of inventory management. 

Microsoft and Apple computers require the purchase of at least a 3 year warranty. This is not included in the price of the system.

How long is the warranty for batteries?

Lenovo: The batteries, stylus, and digitizer pens are limited to 12 months unless otherwise specified.

Apple: One-year warranty for batteries.

Can I order a system not listed on the Computer Shop website?

Yes, you can do this with a Special Order.

How do I get an exception?

What is the networking fee for?

The networking fee is a $65.00 charge included in the price of your computer. This charge is to cover the networking and infrastructure equipment on campus.

What is the Computer Shop mark-up?

The Computer Shop markup is governed by IT Oversight Committee and is used to fund positions and expenses related to ordering, handling, maintaining and documenting of the computer equipment purchased for the institution.

Warranty Service Information:

Computer hardware support and repairs should be coordinated through your Area Technician. All campus computers should have a 3 year warranty. Warranty terms, conditions, and coverage varies from vendor to vendor.

Special Order delivery time can take from 1 to 4 weeks depending on item availability.

 

The following information is provided for the benefit of Area Technicians
  • Lenovo computers needing warranty service can be taken to the Service Desk located in BA-007.
  • Apple computers needing warranty service can be taken to the bookstore.

Some Area Technicians choose to call Lenovo support at 1-800-426-7378 and schedule repairs for their area. 


The three most common repair procedures with Lenovo on campus:

CRU parts go through this process:

- The machine has to be accepted by us for repair
- Diagnosis if needed for machine
- Contact Lenovo for replacement
- Replacement part shipped to Warehouse
- Warehouse processes and internally ships part to respective department
- Part replaced / repaired by technician
- Final testing - Area Tech contacted notifying of repair completion

FRU parts go through this process:

- The machine has to be accepted by us for repair
- Diagnosis if needed for machine 
- Contact Lenovo for replacement
- Replacement part shipped to Lenovo repair technician
- Lenovo technician schedules repair time
- Part replaced / repaired by Lenovo repair technician

Return Policy:

Computer Shop orders may be edited, or canceled until a purchase order has been issued. Once a purchase order has been issued, the following conditions apply:

Standard Parts and Standard Lenovo Systems

Unfulfilled orders, unopened parts, and complete boxed systems can be returned within 30 days. A fee of 15% of the purchase price will be assessed.

Apple Systems and iPads

No returns are allowed on Apple products. Defective items will be handled in accordance with the Apple warranty.

Special Orders and Printers

The Computer Shop does not accept returns for these items.

Returns will be handled between the department who ordered the item and the vendor it was ordered through.

Standards / Exceptions:

Lenovo and Apple are the suppliers of laptop and desktop computers at UVU. Computers approved for purchase will include basic and performance desktop computers as well as light-weight performance, mid-sized basic, and full-sized performance laptops from each vendor.

It is understood that occasionally there needs to be exceptions to established standards. Standards exceptions and changes can be granted by completing the Technology Standards Exceptions / Change Form and obtaining the required approvals:

Policies and Procedures

UVU has established procedures and standards for the purchase of desktop and laptop computers in order to realize cost savings in volume purchasing and reduce the number of configurations that need to be supported. Orders are placed through the Wolverine Marketplace and will generate a requisition that will need to be approved. Computers will be delivered to the area tech responsible for the area that ordered the computers. Through this online ordering system, you can order complete systems and a variety of parts and peripherals.

Standards for Ordering:

Lenovo and Apple are the suppliers of laptop and desktop computers at UVU. 

These standard configurations are purchased in volume saving the institution money while at the same time providing options that address the computing needs of faculty, staff, and computer labs.

It is understood that occasionally there needs to be exceptions to established standards. Standards exceptions and changes can be granted by completing the Technology Standards Exceptions/Change Form and obtaining the required approvals.

Exceptions to these standards will most likely be considered if it is:

  • Based on specific unique educational or business need.
  • Accompanied with the completed Technology Standards Exceptions form.

Exceptions will most likely not be considered if based on price, personal preference or style considerations.

Lenovo computer in the Think product lines do not need an exception form.

Pricing:

All computers will be subject to the Networking Fee. The networking fee is a $65.00 charge included in the price of your computer. This charge is to cover the networking and infrastructure equipment on campus.

All items, excluding Apple, will be subject to the Computer Shop markup. The Computer Shop markup is governed by IT Oversight Committee and is used to fund positions and expenses related to ordering, handling, maintaining and documenting of the computer equipment purchased for the institution.

 

Fulfillment:

All systems are tagged and inventoried through the Computer Shop. This will include an inventory number that will be tied to the machine’s serial number.

All computers and accessories not stocked at the Computer Shop may have a delay of up to 4 weeks. Depending on availability and quantity of an item, some items may exceed 4 weeks.

All items are delivered to the employee’s area technician through the UVU Warehouse. Delivery time is scheduled by the Warehouse.

Returns:

Depot Warranty

Parts and labor repair coverage where shipping (including packaging) or delivery to the repair center is paid for by Lenovo.

Onsite NBD Warranty

Parts and labor repair coverage where labor is provided onsite at your place of business. • If Lenovo determines your product problem is covered by the product warranty and cannot be resolved over the telephone, a technician will be dispatched to arrive onsite, typically the next day.

Tech Install CRU

With Lenovo’s Onsite Technician Installation of Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs), all internal components become qualified as Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) with an authorized Lenovo repair technician dispatched onsite to install replacements parts.

ADP

Accidental Damage Protection against drops, spills, bumps, and structural failures incurred under normal operating conditions or handling, electrical surges and damage to the integrated LCD screen

Keep Your Drive
