Utah Valley University is excited to announce the 2019 UVU Administrative Professionals Conference: Navigating Chaos. This one-day conference is designed to provide administrative professionals of all kinds informative workshops and networking opportunities to improve their skills, gain necessary tools for their roles, and become personally enriched. In attendance will be admins, secretaries, personal assistants, front desk receptionists and many more. Dr. Astrid Tuminez, new President of Utah Valley University, will be the keynote speaker.

Who should attend? All Admins, Office Administrators, Office Managers, Personal Assistants, Executive Assistants and Secretaries. If you support or assist in any way, this conference is for you!

Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez

Dr. Astrid Tuminez
President, Utah Valley University

Following a rich and storied career in business, philanthropy, and academia, Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez became the seventh president of Utah Valley University in 2018. She is the first woman to serve full-time as UVU president. Raised in the slums of the Philippines, Tuminez rose to become a world leader in the fields of technology and political science, most recently serving as an executive at Microsoft. She is also the former vice dean of Research and assistant dean of Executive Education at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

Candida Johnson — Soft Skills. What are they? Why are they important?

 Soft skills are one of the key factors to having a successful working environment, especially in today’s digital age. What are soft skills? Why are they important? We will be going over the significance of soft skills, both verbal and written, and how having these skills will improve your career. It is often thought that soft skills are not as important as hard skills. In this presentation, we will be going over the impact of soft skills and the consequences related to having poor skill practices. Jeff Hutchinson — Excel Tips and Tricks

In this Excel Tips and Tricks Workshop, we will review the interface and introduce the Contextual ribbons, Quick Access Toolbar, as well as show some of the common keyboard commands. We will also demonstrate how to create a simple formula, patch 2 cells into a single cell, and use the Fill Handle to copy the formula. Some of the common formatting features we will review include the Currency method, Accounting method, use of the Font Ribbon Group, Rotate a label, and Merge and Center. We will also define the printing area, scale the spreadsheet for printing, and repeat titles on every page. We will then cover Advanced Formula techniques, Conditional Format, Data Validation, and Outlining.
