Workshops Overview

The conference will feature a number of session tracks with presentations from industry leaders, outstanding keynotes; and a number of social and networking events.  To read more about who is presenting each workshop and what the workshop is about, check out the presenters page.

10:00-10:50 am 

  • Becoming a more efficient student by using Apple solutions
    • Angel Demirev
    • Using iOS apps and devices that help students be more productive in class and their studies
  • Canvas for Students
    • Daniel Delgadillo
    • Students, get started and learn how to navigate through Canvas. During this session we will cover how to set up your profile, notifications, as well as how to send messages, use student groups, peer reviews and sync Canvas’ calendar to Google calendar.
  • You know how to Google, but have you Googled yourself lately? – Managing Your Online Identity
    • Nathan Gerber & Ashley Bates
    • The world of online information is a major force in our world. It influences what we buy, where we go to school, what jobs we pursue, and who we associate with. Because of this, it is important to not only realize that you have an online identity, but know how to manage and improve it.

      This session is a great resource to anyone interested to know what is available online about ourselves, our homes, our departments, and our lives. Nathan Gerber Director of Web Development Services and Ashley Bates, Assistant Director of Web Strategy and Interactive Marketing will be discussing ways to monitor, track, improve, correct, and keep the information flowing in the right direction. Helpful hints on how to keep from making the big mistakes online when sharing information will be covered. We will also be discussing the impact of Social Media in our way of consuming online information.

  • eSignatures Made Easy with Adobe Acrobat and EchoSign
    • Scott Trudeau
    • Learn how you can quickly send, sign, and receive documents using the Adobe Acrobat family of products. Adobe EchoSign allows you to easily setup multi-person signature workflows, sign documents, and manage document workflows from just about an device (iPhone, Android, laptops, and computers).

  • Microsoft - Office 365 in the Classroom
    • John Whitaker
    • Come and explore the educational opportunities with Office 365 in the classroom! Terabytes of storage with the ability to access your files from anywhere on the planet. Edit your homework on the school bus, your home or in the car. Office 365 Web Applications give you freedom to accomplish your work anywhere.
  • Game-Based Learning: Discovering Engagement Through Gaming
    • Sam Gedeborg, Innovation Center at Utah Valley University
    • Game-based learning is a popular topic in 21st century education with a recent survey in 2012 showing student growth in problem solving skills, social skills, and engagement and motivation in their classes. We will take a look into some of the theory behind game-based learning and what game designers try to accomplish to improve student engagement. Some of these include fun theory, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, player types, flow, and game elements.
  • Tips and Tricks for Using Your iPad/iPhone at Work
    • Mark Werner
    • This workshop will focus on the efficient use of the Apple iPad/iPhone in the work environment. After a short presentation, the workshop will be opened up as a question/answer time for those in attendance. Please submit your questions to Mark Werner at least 5 days before the class.
  • Photoshop CC - The Latest Version of Photoshop

    • In this presentation, you will learn how to use Photoshop to quickly edit photos, create amazing special effects, and even edit 3D objects and video.

  • Getting to Know Your Mac Computer

    • If you have or plan to have a Mac computer anytime in the future, this class is for you!! You will learn the basics of the OS X and have the opportunity to ask your questions. The Goal of the class is to help you become more productive with your new Mac computer.

    • Using the iPad to increase student learning and interaction in class
  • Electric Library Boogaloo: Streaming Videos and Ebooks
    • Trevor Young & Annie Smith
    • This presentation will share some of the new acquisitions at the UVU Library. Since 2013, we have added 17,000 streaming videos and almost 200,000 ebooks to our collections. Trevor Young will discuss how to access and use streaming videos. Annie Smith will demonstrate how to use and download ebooks to any Adobe-enabled device. Both presenters will suggest ways for faculty to incorporate videos and ebooks into their courses.

  • UVU IT Service Desk, we’re here to help!
    • Bobby Lott
    • An introduction for the UVU IT Service desk, its hours, location and the various services available. Introduction to features of myUVU, how to get setup on wireless, and a quick user guide to all things UVU email. A short Q & A time will be provided at the end of the presentation

    • Come and meet Surface Pro 3. We will show capabilities, features, the new surface pen and dive in to the power of Windows 8.1 on the new surface.
