NEW Student Information


Admission to the teacher education licensure program is a separate process from and in addition to admission to Utah Valley University. Meeting the minimum requirements qualifies the student to be considered for admission.

Admission criteria include:

  • ACT minimum scores (Composite 21, English 20, Math 19) or SAT minimum scores (Critical Read/Math 1000, with Math and Reading scores of 450). If student has a bachelor degree or higher, he/she does not need to meet this testing requirement.  
  • Successful completion of all General Education requirements, the pre-professional education course, and where possible, the majority of content area courses.
  • No content area grade lower than a C.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Interview directed by the Teacher Education Selection Committee.

Applicants are accepted into the Teacher Education Program for Fall and Spring Semesters after meeting entrance requirements.

Following admission to the program, students must pass the LiveScan Criminal Background Check prior to registering for courses.

Application Deadlines

3rd Friday in September: Student teaching applications for Spring semester due

1st Friday in October: Program admission applications for Spring semester due

3rd Friday in January: Student teaching applications for Fall semester due

1st Friday in March: Program admission applications for Fall semester due

Re-Licensure Courses

Persons who hold a valid (current or expired) secondary license may pursue re-licensing course work through the Teacher Education Program at UVU.

Employment Outlook

A Secondary education license qualifies students for teaching positions in the State of Utah.

Approved Majors

Students must earn a minimum C grade in content area courses.
Bachelor of Science and/or Bachelor of Art degrees are available in the following areas:
