Program Details

Students will study the French language at a world-class language institute in addition to completing cultural studies courses with Dr. Temple. Students will continue to refine their knowledge of the French language and will deepen their understanding of French culture. Students will hone their global citizenship skills while comparing and constrasting French culture with their own culture(s). Living with a host family will further enhance their experiences both in the classroom-and during numerous excursions in/around Paris.

Anticipated Curriculum

*Student must take both of these courses. Both courses can be counted toward the minor in French.

LANG 291R "Appreciation of French Culture" - Independent Study (3 credits)
This course may be applied as upper division credit (see program director and advisor for more information). Prerequisite(s): None 

FREN 490R Special Topics in French (3 credits)
Prerequisite(s): (FREN 202G or instructor approval) and *University Advanced Standing

 

*University Advanced Standing - 24 credits completed, GPA 2.0 or higher MAT 1030 and ENGL 2010 or equivalent.

Program Requirements*

Must be 18 years of age at the time of departure

Minimum G.P.A.: 2.0 or Higher

Prerequisite Course(s): Students must have taken at least FR 1010 prior to commencement of program or receive permission from program director to participate.

Physical Requirements: Significant walking. Students must be 100% self-reliant and able to navigate a large metro system on their own as they travel to/from class. Must be able to easily climb stairs, navigate cobblestone streets, and navigate large crowds with ease.

Each international destination has its own Covid-19 rules and it is the travelers responsibility to find out what is required. UVU will not be responsible for covering the cost of hotel quarantine or Covid-19 testing in foreign destinations. Students may be required to test negative for COVID-19 at their own expense by host countries as a condition for entry.

Estimated Program Fee*

This fee covers in-country housing and transportation, course registration and materials at LSI Language Institute, breakfast and dinner daily with host family, a 6-day museum pass, and access to weekly cultural activities and lectures. International insurance.

Students should be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for possible COVID tests or quarantine stays if required by the host country for entry or exit.

All students are required to pay a $75 non-refundable application fee.
