URSIG Application

Applications Must Have the Following Information:

  • What is the purpose of the research?
  • Clearly describe the roles of each member of the team.
  • How will the students roles contribute to their learning?

Awards may be used for supplies, faculty stipends, or student hourly wages. Proposals will be submitted to the Title III committee for review.

Faculty awarded funding must submit a final summary representing their findings prior to the beginning of the following school year.

Notification of awards will be sent via email

Please Note: You will need to secure signatures via DocuSign to complete the application. We will not accept a hard copy of signatures in our office. Please plan ahead--securing signatures from, department chair, and dean and financial manager may take several days.

Tips on Preparing Your Proposal:

Proposals Should:

  • Include your name, UVID number, email address, and lead faculty information.
  • State, in clear terms, the central question, purpose of research, and background and context to show how the project fits into overall discipline, and how it contributes to that discipline in a meaningful and novel way.
  • Budget narrative must include what the role of the individual(s) will be on the project.
  • Be well organized.
  • All proposals will undergo a careful review by the Title III committee.

Review and Funding of Undergraduate Summer Institute Projects

Take into the account the following criteria:

  1. The project has clearly stated research objectives and outcomes that can be readily evaluated.
  2. The project describes research that significantly contributes to scholarship or creative work within its discipline.
  3. The project describes the role of each member of the team and how it contributes to students learning and experience.
  4. The project describes rigorous contribution t by each student team member.
  5. Project provides a transformative experience for participant(s).
  6. The proposal has the proper team structure (at least two students, and one faculty), with the written endorsement of the department and college.
  7. The budget rational and distribution of the budget is precise and appropriate for the research (students’ salaries, faculty salaries (Max. $1000 plus benefits), equipment, project related activities (no dissemination funds and conference travel)).
