The Utah Resident Freshman Academic Merit Scholarships will be selected from current high school seniors who demonstrate that they meet the academic criteria.

Required GPA and ACT/SAT scores

Resident Freshman Grid with SAT/ACT and GPA requirements., Presidential (Academic Merit) Scholarship: Students with GPA of 3.9 or higher and ACT score of 30-36, SAT score of 1600-1340 before march 2016, SAT score of 1600-1400 after March 2016. Exemplary (Academic Merit) Scholarship: Students with GPA of 3.9-4.0, ACT score of 27-29, SAT score of 1220-1300 before March 2016, SAT score of 1290-1360 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.8, ACT score of 28-36, SAT score of 1260-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1320-1600 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.7, ACT score of 29-36, SAT score of 1300-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1360-1600 after March 2016.   1. Complete UVU Admission's Application.
  2. Provide the Admissions Office with an official copy of your high school transcript
  3. Submit ACT or SAT Scores

  • Students who have completed the Admissions process by February 1st will automatically be considered
  • If you meet the Utah Resident Freshman Academic Merit Scholarship criteria, you will automatically be considered for the scholarship

These scholarships are available to students who were publicly recognized and awarded as a Sterling Scholar their senior year of high school in Utah.

  • Region Winners:
    • This award is for four years or until you receive your Bachelor's degree, whichever is sooner.
    • $2000 per semester.
  • Region Runners-Up:
    • This award is for two years only.
    • $1750 per semester.
  • High School Winners:
    • This award is for one year only.
    • $1000 per semester.

Eligibility

  • Must be an incoming freshman.
  • Must be a Utah Resident.
  • Must have a 3.0 High School GPA.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Renewal Criteria

The following criteria is reviewed at the end of each semester. Failure to maintain this criteria will result in the cancellation of your scholarship opportunity.

  • Region Winners:
    • Must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
    • Must earn 15 credits each semester.
  • Region Runners-Up:
    • Must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
    • Must earn 12 credits each semester.
  • High School Winners:
    • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Must earn 12 credits each semester.

Large corporations, small businesses, families, and individuals donate through the Make A Gift program to allow students the chance to qualify for privately funded scholarship awards.

  • Academic scholarships are scored based on your GPA and credit hours completed at UVU.
  • 3.0 GPA Minimum is Required
  • Cannot have a previous Bachelor's degree

They are different than private scholarships in that many of the private scholarships are covered through successful completion of the UVU online application. A few of the most common outside scholarship programs are listed below. This list is not comprehensive, and UVU is not affiliated with any outside scholarships.

Centennial Scholarship

The Centennial Scholarship is for eligible Utah public high school students who complete certain early graduation requirements. It is a partial tuition program, and a student must graduate early from a Utah secondary institution and then enroll within one calendar year in an eligible Utah post-secondary institution. Additional qualifications apply. Please visit with your local high school for more information.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)

GEAR UP is a federally-funded program for low-income students to help them succeed in high school and prepare for college.

Americorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. The program provides an education award for completing a certain number of service hours, and the award can be used to pay for current tuition, future tuition, and past loans.

The Regents’ Scholarship encourages Utah high school students to prepare for college academically and financially by taking a core course of study and saving for college. The scholarship may be used at any public college or university in the Utah System of Higher Education.

The New Century Scholarship encourages students to accelerate their education by earning an Associate’s degree in high school from an institution within the Utah System of Higher Education. The scholarship may be used at a 4-year public college or university within the Utah System of Higher Education.
