Freshman Reading Program Book Nomination Form

Have you read any good books lately?

The office of First-Year Experience & Student Retention is currently seeking recommendations for the 2021-2022 freshman reading book. All nominated books will be reviewed by a faculty committee who will narrow down the nominations to five books, which will then be recommended to the University President, who makes the final selection. Criteria for nominated books is listed below. Books that do not meet the nomination criteria will not be considered for review.

  1. Book must be available in paperback at the time of purchase.
  2. Book should grab the reader’s attention within the first 25 pages.
  3. Author/central figure must be alive and available for a campus visit at a reasonable price.
  4. Content must carry across multiple academic disciplines.
  5. Length should not exceed 300 pages.
  6. Controversial topics or content may be recommended, but books that contain gratuitously graphic content or language will not be considered.
