GEAR UP is a seven-year federal grant program that provides services and assistance for qualifying students in order to help them successfully graduate from high school and prepare for college.

Ansley Funes

Ansley Funes

Ansley Funes, 2018 Miss Utah County, started in the Miss America Organization in 2015, receiving the Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen Committee Award and Scholastic Scholarship Award.

 Ansley is a junior who currently attends Brigham Young University pursuing a degree in Nursing and a minor in music. Ansley graduated with her Associates of Science at Utah Valley University simultaneous with her high school diploma. Her career goal is to become a doctor of neontology. She is also enrolled in Cosmetology school and will graduate in June.

 In 2017, Ansley won the Dance Sterling Scholar and was a national semi-finalist. For eight years, she received superior in piano with the Federation of Music and performed a memorized 11-page concerto piece. She serves our community as an Ambassador for STEM Government Office of Economic Development. She is a Representative for BYU Y-Serve and Gear Up. She volunteered at Timpanogos hospital and Boys and Girls Club of America for over a year.

 Ansley’s passion and platform is Fortify Yourself: Increase Self-Esteem Through Education and she promotes that we all stay fortify our intelligence to thrive. She travels to schools across Utah to host seminars and help students take a pledge to become educated learners through achieving higher education goals. Ansley’s drive is to promote education so we can all become ambassadors of our own lives and make an impact on others. 

Ansley participated in GEAR UP during her junior and senior year at Timpanogos High School. She continues to participate in GEAR UP throughout her first year at BYU.
