Program Details
Students in the College of Health and Public Services (CJ/Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, Forensic Science, Public and Community Health, and Nursing) have an exciting opportunity for a study abroad, international collaboration. Students will be traveling to Christchurch, Canterbury in New Zealand to study the effects of the three devastating earthquakes of 2010, 2011, 2016. We have room for 20+ students on a first-come-first–served basis.
There will also be field trips and a recreational trip on the weekend included--with transportation also provided by our host; personal expenses and activities will be the student’s responsibility). The faculty, staff and other personnel from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch Public Services and Otago Emergency Management will provide instruction along with faculty from UVU.

Although priority is given to College of Health and Public Services majors, all other majors will be considered.
Anticipated Curriculum
ESMG 489R Special Topics in Emergency Management
(Prerequisite - *University Advanced Standing)
ESMG 680R Special Topics in Public Service
(Prerequisite - Acceptance into the Masters of Public Services Program)
*University Advanced Standing - 24 credits completed, GPA 2.0 or higher MAT 1030 and ENGL 2010 or equivalent.
Program Requirements*
Must be 18 years of age at the time of departure
Minimum G.P.A.: 2.0
Physical requirements: Mild to strenuous activity during the day as well as mild to moderate activity during excursions.

Fee covers foreign institution costs, in-country transportation, lodging, some meals, some excursions.

All students are required to pay a $75 application fee for all Study Abroad programs.
Tuition Waivers
Please contact the UVU Benefits Office for more information. In certain instances, tuition waivers may not apply for an international program.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Pell Grants and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to the program, based on eligibility. Applicant must have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (BA 105) and complete all necessary application forms for financial aid.
