Program Details

Students see the islands of Samoa in a way that creates an appreciation for the culture of Samoa while making a difference in the lives of the people. Participants will have the opportunity to earn department credits. Students will be immersed in the community by teaching elementary children in the local schools about strep throat and rheumatic fever. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with healthcare workers and experience clinicals in various locations.

The islands of Samoa include beautiful beaches, tropical rain forests, and other natural wonders. Students have an opportunity to balance work with fun, and experience authentic Samoan culture.

Anticipated Curriculum

*Students are expected to enroll in one or two courses for this study abroad.

NURS 4320 Nursing in the Community
(Prerequisite - Senior in Nursing Program)

NURS 4325 Nursing in the Community Clinical
(Prerequisite - Senior in Nursing Program)


Program Requirements*

Must be 18 years of age at the time of departure

Minimum G.P.A.: 2.5

Physical requirements: Mild to strenuous activity during the day as well as mild to moderate activity during excursions.

Fee covers in-country housing and transportation, excursions, most meals, international insurance.

All students are required to pay a $75 application fee for all Study Abroad programs.

Tuition Waivers

Please contact the UVU Benefits Office for more information. In certain instances, tuition waivers may not apply for an international program.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Pell Grants and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to the program, based on eligibility. Applicant must have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (BA 105) and complete all necessary application forms for financial aid.
