Portrait of Dan Campbell

DANIEL W. CAMPBELL is a long-time advocate for higher education in Utah. He served as a member of Utah Valley University’s Board of Trustees for nine years including terms as vice-chair and chair of the board. He then served for nine years on the Utah State Board of Regents, the governing body of the Utah System of Higher Education, including six years as vice-chair or chair. He chaired the Regents’ Resource and Review Committee for the University of Utah, and served as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Education Excellence.

Campbell earned a degree from Brigham Young University and is a national advisory council member for Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Provo School District Foundation and previously served as a board member of the Provo Power and Telecommunications boards and as an executive board member of the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was recently honored as the 2019 Provo School District Business Champion for support of programs focused on the needs of stu¬dents. Dan and his wife Peggy have also been long-term sup¬porters of UVU and of student scholarships for first-generation students.

Campbell was formerly the senior vice president and chief financial officer of WordPerfect Corporation, and prior to that was a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Since 1994, Campbell has been a managing general partner at EsNet Group, a pri¬vately held investment company. He also is lead director of the board of directors for Nu Skin Enterprises and has served on various private and public company boards.

The Campbells have four children and 14 grandchildren. They live in Provo, Utah.

WHEREAS, Daniel W. Campbell is a distinguished leader in business and education in Utah, having diligently attended to his former duties on the Utah System of Higher Education Board of Regents; and

WHEREAS, he provided strong leadership and service as both chair and vice chair of the Board of Regents for six years, and was an advocate for all institution s in the Utah System of Higher Education, serving as a member of the Governor's Commission on Education Excellence and on several presidential search committees; and

WHEREAS, his past endeavors enabled him to lead Utah Valley University effectively as chairman of its Board of Trustees, providing strength and stability during times of great growth and supporting scholarships for first­ genera tion students; and

WHEREAS, his personal desire for education motivated him to earn a Bachelor of Accounting degr ee from Brigham Young University and to serve as a national advisory council member of the Marriott School of Management; and

WHEREAS, his unceasing desire to improve and to su pport others served him well on the Board of Governors for the Provo School District Found ation and num erous other civic and community endeavors; and

WHEREAS, he continues to lead business efforts in Utah, providing opportunity for the advancement of families and individuals, including his work with EsNet Group and Nu Skin;

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Trustees of Utah Valley University hereby confers upon Daniel W. Campbell the Honorary Doctorate of Hum ane Letters. Realized this 19th of August, 2020, in Orem, Utah.
