I Am First
Leadership Program
The I Am First LEAD Program is a one-year leadership development program for new first-generation freshmen at UVU. ("First-generation" is defined as neither parent/guardian has a U.S. bachelor's degree.)
This program develops students in three key ways:
- Helping you recognize and hone your talents and skills (using the Gallup StrengthsFinder Assessment)
- Providing you with effective skills and strategies that are vital to succeeding in college
- Training you to become a Peer Mentor and student leader at UVU
Students enroll in a 3-credit course each semester (Fall and Spring), in which they will build a community with other first-generation LEAD students, meet regularly with an assigned Peer Mentor, and network with a staff or faculty Mentor. Scholarships may be available for students who apply and are admitted to the program.
Benefits:
- Develop essential skills to succeed in college and beyond
- Join a structured community of first-generation freshmen and I Am First staff
- Receive credit for leadership courses
- Connect with experienced student and faculty mentors
- Scholarship opportunities, including a partial-tuition scholarship
- Earn “Leadership Certification” on your Academic Transcript
