Planning at UVU is composed of a series of interconnected planning activities that ensure activities at all levels of the university support UVU’s mission. UVU’s planning process consists of three components: assessment of the mission and core themes, extended-term institutional plans for specific dimensions of the mission and core themes, and the annual unit strategic planning and PBA process.

Institutional Strategic Planning

The five key institutional strategic plans--the Academic Master Plan, the Facilities Master Plan, the Strategic Inclusion Plan, the Completion Plan, and the Strategic Plan for Managing Growth—establish aims and approaches that promote achievement of the university’s mission, core themes, and administrative imperatives. This set of plans articulate UVU’s comprehensive, integrated strategy for mission fulfillment.

Unit Strategic Planning

All units are expected to develop a strategic plan both to guide operations and to facilitate the PBA process; strategic plans are the primary means of supporting budget requests. Unit strategic plans are composed of four major elements: Mission, Objectives, Assessment, and Quality Improvement Initiatives.

PBA

The university allocates resources through the annual Planning, Budget, and Assessment process based on unit plans and annual university areas of focus that reflect assessments of institutional effectiveness.

UPAC

Faculty and staff advise the President and President's Council on planning at all levels through the University Planning Advisory Committee.
