PROGRAM DATES

PROGRAM DETAILS

Peru is a country where history is still alive. It is one of the few places in the world where new historical discoveries are being made daily. The diversity of immigration from other countries combined with its indigenous people, make Peru a melting pot of world-recognized culture, cuisine, music and dance. Also, Peru has one of the richest biodiversity worldwide which includes the Pacific coastline, the Andes and the Amazon rainforest. In addition to its natural wonders, the country is home to many of UNESCO's World Heritage sites such as Machu Picchu, Chan Chan, and Historic Center of Lima.

This language program will offer cultural opportunities in three completely different locations. Students will become familiar with the northern coast lifestyle while they are in Trujillo, they will experience the capital way of life in Lima and the Andean standard of living when they visit Cusco. In addition, while at the UPAO, students will receive direct instruction from UVU faculty and pair up with a Peruvian study partner according to their personal and academic goals, live with Peruvian families and provide service to fulfill a service learning component to program. While in Trujillo, students will provide hours of service in a conversation club at the UPAO campus and in Cusco, they will spend two days among indigenous Andean communities.
