Welcome Faculty and Advisors

Encouraging Internships

The most successful way to inform students about internships is through faculty and advisors. Below are ways in which faculty and advisors can encourage internships within their department:

  • Join the "Hot Internships Email" list
  • Announce a “Hot Internship of the Week” to your classes
  • Post internship success stories and advertising on your the office door, information board or department website
  • Add department internship information to syllabus
  • Encourage internship involvement when assisting or advising students
  • Invite your Internship Coordinator to speak with your class about internship opportunities
  • Include internship subject matter in the overall curriculum
  • Encourage students to use Handshake to search for internships
  • Have former students return and report about internship and career experiences
  • Ask Internship Services staff to do an internship spotlight or full presentation in your class
  • Join Internships Services Facebook and Twitter pages and link to your departments social media pages

For additional suggestions or assistance with increasing internship participation in your department, please call (801) 863-6589 or email internships@uvu.edu.

Internship Coordinator and Faculty Supervisor Responsibilities

We value your role in connecting students to internship opportunities and for the insights you provide to make internships a successful and positive experience for UVU students. We have developed two documents (below) to assist new Internship Coordinators and Faculty Supervisors through the internship process.

Internship Coordinator ResponsibilitiesThe individual responsible for overseeing internships for a particular college (e.g. School of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences).

Faculty Supervisor ResponsibilitiesA faculty member who teaches the student’s internship course and provides ongoing mentorship throughout the duration of the internship.

Internship Coordinators Directory

Internship Services updates the Internship Coordinators Directory every semester.  Coordinators may use it as a reference for contacting coordinators in other departments for ideas, questions and additional resources.

Internship Providers List

All internship sites that have completed the Master Internship Agreement are listed on the Internship Providers List.  These internship providers are considered approved to offer credit-bearing internships.
