City Controller – Ron Galperin

Internships available in communications, community engagement and innovation, demand audit (fiscal oversight and support services), financial management system, and web and external platforms.

Los Angeles Controller Ron Galperin is the taxpayers’ watchdog at City Hall, making sure public dollars are spent efficiently and effectively. He is also the elected paymaster, auditor and chief accounting officer for the City of Los Angeles. Galperin oversees a team that conducts independent audits, manages City payroll and spending, prepares financial reports, pursues fraud and waste, and works to create a more transparent and accountable city for everyone. His reports are improving street maintenance, arts funding, management of special funds, L.A.’s trees, emergency services and many other City functions.

The Mayoral Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for experiential learning for some of the country's best and brightest undergraduate and graduate students. Interns will perform a variety of tasks which may include policy research and development, drafting memoranda, community engagement, outreach and education, administrative tasks, and legal research and analysis.

Council District 1 - Gilbert Cedillo

Unpaid, Part-time (10-20hrs per week), multiple internships offered each semester. Each one runs 3-4 months.

The Office of Los Angeles City Council Member Gil Cedillo seeks energetic and skilled individuals with a wide range of skills to assist with communications, constituent services, legislative and public outreach while gaining valuable experience.

Councilmember Gil Cedillo brings 15 years of legislative experience to the City Council. Having served as a member of the State Assembly and Senate, he authored over a hundred bills that were signed into law by four different Governors that include Pete Wilson, Gray Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jerry Brown. Most were groundbreaking and innovative pieces of legislation that included cleaning up California’s brownfields, state oversight and fair share zoning for transitional and emergency homeless shelters (SB 2), workers’ right to organize (AB 1889), Downtown Rebound (AB 2870), and the California Dream Act (AB 130 and 131). His long running legislation to grant drivers' licenses to undocumented immigrants (AB60) was finally signed into law by Governor Brown on October 3, 2013, nine months after he was termed out of state office.

Council District 3 - Bob Blumenfield

Unpaid, Part-time, multiple internships offered each semester.

Our internship program offers high school and college students a unique opportunity to experience the work of a City Council office. The program exposes students to district and legislative office operations and activities of a Councilmember's work. These experiences include working with constituents, conducting community outreach efforts, assisting community based organizations, organizing civic events and projects, databases, staffing the office, and other activities.

Council District 4 - David E. Ryu

Unpaid, Part-time, Interns are year-round.

District Four of the City of Los Angeles covers diverse communities ranging from Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley across to Griffith Park and the surrounding communities and stretching down to Miracle Mile and a sliver of Koreatown.

The Council Office is looking for interns year-round to serve in the Councilmember’s policy shop, district offices, the planning team and communications shop working to communicate the Councilmember’s agenda. The internship provides top undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to learn the legislative and community relations process while working on the pressing policy issues facing the City of Los Angeles. In particular, the Councilmember chairs the City Council Health, Education, Neighborhoods, Parks, Arts, and River Committee and sits on the following other Council committees: "Homelessness and Poverty", “Public Safety”, “Public Works & Gang Reduction”, and "Immigrant Affairs, Civil Rights, and Equity".

Council District 5 - Paul Koretz

Unpaid, Part-time, multiple internships offered each semester.

Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz accepts interns for his City Hall, West Los Angeles and Valley District Offices. Interns will have opportunities to gain first-hand experience working in local government. Previous interns have assisted with community events, press conferences, and City Council meetings.

Council District 8 - Marqueece Harris – Dawson

Unpaid, Part-time, multiple internships offered.

Students who are studying social work, political science, public administration, business, public policy, urban planning, architecture, communications or any other related field of study. Schedules are negotiable, but we require a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Councilmember Harris-Dawson represents parts of South Los Angeles. He is the Chair of the Homelessness and Poverty Committee and the Vice-Chair of the Planning, Land Use and Management Committee. He also sits on the following committees: Economic Development; Housing; Personnel and Animal Welfare; and Rules, Elections, Intergovernmental Relations and Neighborhoods.
