Language Services Industry Internship Application

This application is specific to internships with language service providers. While these companies provide services such as translation, interpreting, and localization, some welcome interns from all areas of study since they are also involved in HR, marketing, software engineering, etc.

  1. Read each of our current internship program descriptions (see below). All internships are 3 credit hours and must be completed within the timeframe of a normal UVU semester.
    1. In-House Interpreting (Spanish, Russian, and Chinese needed)
    2. U.S. Translation Company (no second language required)
  2. Contact Devin Gilbert for more info and availability for these internships using this form. 

  3. Complete Internship Orientation, and save your completion code. Your completion code will be displayed on your screen and emailed to you once you complete the orientation.
  4. Submit your application by selecting "Start Application" below. Have the following information ready before launching the document.
    • Name and address of Internship Provider/Company. 
    • Internship Site Supervisor name, email, and phone.  The Internship Site Supervisor is the individual employed by your Internship Provider who will mentor you during your experience.
    • Average number of hours that you will work per week
  5. Upon receipt of application approval by email, please refer to the registration instructions and included CRN number to register for your course.  Please allow up to 2-3 weeks for your application to be finalized and to receive your registration instructions. 


In-House Interpreting

This is a 3-credit-hour internship (180 hour + time commitment) that can be completed almost entirely remotely. In-House Interpreting is a remote medical interpreting company in Utah that also offers the standard medical interpreter training program: Bridging the Gap. An internship with In-House Interpreting consists of:


  1. Bridging the Gap training course (40 hours)
  2. Group training (10 hours)
  3.  On-the-job remote medical interpreting while being observed by a mentor (125 hours)
  4.  Weekly personal study (~30 hours)
  5. Various assessments, including an exam to receive a Remote Medical Interpreting (RMI)

The training program is offered to students during specific parts of the year at no cost, availability permitting. See this In-House Interpreting webpage for more information; fill out the form at the bottom of the webpage to request availability.

Upon completion of this internship, students will be highly trained medical interpreters with much more than the necessary qualifications to work in Utah and with the necessary certification to contract as a remote medical interpreter for most any agency in the country, including In-House Interpreting. The training received in this internship is also enough for any student to be ready to test for national medical interpreter certification.

U.S. Translation Company

This is a 3-credit-hour internship (180 hour + time commitment) that must be completed in-person at U.S. Translation Company’s headquarters in downtown Salt Lake City. The company will provide a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the internship.

U.S. Translation Company is one of the area’s largest language service providers and works with translation, localization, and conference interpreting projects.

Interns will have the opportunity to work in all of the different departments in the company (project management, vendor management, localization engineering, remote conference interpreting, sales, etc.) so that they can explore the many different facets of the language services industry. An offer of employment with U.S. Translation Company is also a likely result of this internship.
