New Catalog

Koha is Fulton Library's new cataloging system

Students using computers

The Fulton Library is excited to introduce a new look and feel to our online catalog! We’ve recently moved to a new system called Koha, an open-source integrated library system used to catalog the Library’s thousands of resources, check items in and out to patrons, and manage purchasing of new items. This change means UVU students and employees will see an updated and more modern interface when they search the catalog and use their online library account.

To explore Koha, click the Catalog icon on the Library’s homepage. There are many helpful features in Koha to support the work of UVU students and faculty! The OneSearch database has not changed and can also be used to search for books and other library resources.

Lists

A new feature in Koha is the ability to create lists of library resources, which are then saved to your library account. As a student, this feature could be used to create a list of books or videos you plan to use for a research project or to keep track of books you’d like to read for personal enjoyment! As faculty, you can use lists to create reading lists you can then share with your students to help them easily locate class materials available through the Fulton Library.

Library Account

Use the link in the upper right corner of Koha to log in to your library account using your UVID and password (the same credentials used for myUVU). From your account, you can view a list of items you currently have checked out along with due dates, a list of items you have on hold, any library fines you may have accumulated, and any lists you’ve created. You can also renew items directly from your account, as long as those items haven’t already been requested by another patron.

Place a Hold

When you locate a book or video in Koha you’d like to check out, you can use the“Place hold” tool to request it. If the item is available, a library employee will pull the item from the shelf and place it on hold for you at the first floor Circulation Desk. If the item is checked out by another patron, you’ll be next in line when the item is returned. An email alert will let you know when your item is ready for pickup. UVU employees can request items delivered directly to their office using the delivery form.

Help

For help using any of these Koha catalog features, call the Fulton Library at 801-863-8265, use our Chat service, or stop by the library to speak with us in person. We’re always happy to help!

The new Koha system is the result of months of hard work by library employees Mark Stevens, Tim Rowley, Azucena Aguayo, Anthony Morris, Jacques d’Emal, Trevor Young, and Rich Paustenbaugh. Koha wouldn’t have happened without their expertise and devotion!
