UVU Welcomes Our Newest Librarian, Sophia Porco!

Sophia PorcoThe Fulton Library is excited to introduce our newest librarian, Sophia Porco! Sophia joined the Utah Valley University community at the beginning of July as our Technical Services Librarian.

Sophia attended a small college in rural Appalachia and graduated with a bachelor’s in psychology. She briefly considered a number of potential careers (some more feasible than others—it turns out that not a lot of places were hiring professional ghost tour guides), then decided to pursue a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University. While attending IU, she decided to also pursue a master’s in information science. Upon graduation, Sophia wanted to go back to a place with mountains. Utah seemed like a perfect fit, and it was a good choice! She loves being able to go outside and see all the beautiful views.

When Sophia isn’t working at the library, she enjoys watching scary movies, reading, drawing (poorly), and pondering what she’ll buy first when she one day wins the lottery, which will definitely probably happen soon! Sophia feels fortunate to have a career that she likes so much that even after that winning ticket blows through her open window, she’ll still keep doing what she’s doing now.

Sophia’s focus in librarianship is in the Technical Services area, which is one of the most fun places to be. She will also support UVU’s faculty and students in the Music, Engineering Sciences, and Philosophy departments as their subject librarian. If you’re in need of research assistance or have a purchase suggestion for any of these departments, please feel free to contact her.

 Welcome, Sophia!
