1.3 Identifying Keywords

Keywords describe your topic and are used to search the Library's catalog and databases (searchable collections of information) for useful books and articles.

One of the easiest ways to identify keywords is to make a list of synonyms, concepts, people, and events that are relevant to your topic. As you search, you try these words in different combinations to find more information about your topic.

Since our topic is the history of rock music, which keywords do you think would be useful? (Drag your choices into the gray boxes below. The keywords will turn green if you find the three most useful ones.)

history
origins
classical music
The Beatles
electric guitars
rock and roll music
