2.2 Starting a Topic with PICO

In nursing research, we often start with PICO to figure out what we want to know and what we'll be looking for:

Problem or Patient or Population   The P helps me narrow down my focus. What am I going to be looking at?
Intervention or Indicator   What was the experiment? What did the researchers do differently?
Comparison   How was the intervention or indicator better than another or what we were already doing?
Outcome of interest   What happened?

The C and the O of PICO will be more useful once I have my hands on some articles, but for now, the P and I will get me started.
