Starting a Topic

By the time I start to do the serious research, I will need a research question. A research question will focus my efforts and make both my research and writing easier. For example, if I wanted to research happiness, I might ask the following questions as I brainstormed what I wanted to know:
  • What is happiness?
  • Are happy people healthier than unhappy people?
  • Do happy people live longer?

I can then use these ideas to create my focused research question. Here's an example of one I could use:

EXAMPLE: How does happiness affect health?
