Registration Information

How Do I Register for ENGH 0890 or 1000?

In order to be able to register for your first Writing class at UVU (whether you are starting in 0890, 1000, or 1010), you will need to have first done one of the two following things:

1) Submit your ACT scores to UVU (you may have already done this as part of the application process)

2) Take the Accuplacer Test, a test used (but not designed) by UVU students to place them in the appropriate starting course.

Based on either your ACT or Accuplacer score, you will be placed in either ENGH 0890, 1000, or 1010. However, you will still need to register for the correct course after being placed. If you have any questions about the Accuplacer assessment, check out our Placement Page on this website, or visit with an Academic Adviser.

Registering for our courses works the same as registering for any other course. If this is your first time registering for courses at UVU, it's a good idea to head over to the UVU Registration Page, and you might want to walk through their Registration Tutorial.

What if I Need to Join the Class but Haven't Registered?

Registering for our courses after the semester has already begun works differently. Here are a few things you need to know:

  • You cannot add into our classes after the second week of the semester. Due to the fast-paced nature of our courses and how much material you would have missed, we find that students who join after the first week often struggle to catch up, and joining after two missed weeks just isn't feasible.

  • If you need to join the class after it has started (for example, because you couldn't register ahead of time or ended up having to switch classes), you will need to do the following:
  1. Join the waiting list for that class through online registration. Professors must give preference to students who are on the waiting list before students who are not.
  2. Speak to the Professor teaching the class you would like to take and ask permission to join. Not every teacher will be willing or able to allow you to join. It may be too late in terms of the work you have missed, or the class may already have the maximum allowed students.
  3. Once the Professor has given you permission, they will contact our Academic Adviser to give you an override to join the course.
  4. You should get an email confirmation of this override, which will allow you to join the class through Online Registration.
  • Please be understanding and respectful of our Professors and Support Staff. Most of the time what they can and can't do is restricted by UVU policy and is not a personal decision they are able to make.
