Michael Card is a Senior Manager and Head of Operations at Certus Accounting & Tax Services, LLC. As Certus is a relatively new accounting firm, Michael works on internal systems and processes to assure efficiency and productivity while managing many clients personally and overseeing the bookkeeping department as well. He also provides outsourced controller and CFO services for a number of Certus clients.
Michael is a firm believer in the force for good that an accountant can be for his or her clients as well as all those that interact with that client. Chris has a background in both accounting and retail sales and management as well as serving an ecclesiastical mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also driving for Lyft. Through all of these experiences the ability to talk to anyone about anything has proven to be the most valuable skill he has gained. While technical skills and experience may not always be transferable between jobs and industries, interpersonal communication is a crucial component of success in any field.

Nicole Hemsley is currently working towards becoming a CPA. Nicole is prepping for the Audit as well as the Reg sections of the exam while she is studying her MAcc degree at UVU.
Nicole believes that it is import to both help clients understand their finances and for them to become financially independent. She enjoys working closely with people and values the importance of communicating well with others.
Nicole managed to graduate ahead of schedule in three years while balancing being a cheerleader at UVU, working part-time, and interning. Upon graduation Nicole chose to go directly into her MAcc while still cheering for UVU.

Besides common accounts payable duties, Savannah performed various tasks such as handling monthly inventory cost management, registered for new business licenses, and calculated quarterly sales tax.

Rubi has 10 years experience as a Financial Planning Analyst. Her main accomplishment was to lead the whole financial department as the key user to implement the new SAP system in the corporation. Analyzing and mapping each process and procedure of the financial accounting department, helping to reduce time in the process of credit and collection, reducing costing in banking operation, and analyzing data that supported strategic decision making.
Rubi had to assess projects of investment and forecast the CAPEX budget. She applied metrics, financial ratios, that help to decide the viability of each project.
Rubi has a background in Corporate Finance. She has a Business Management degree and Master of Finance. She did undergraduate at University of Utah in accounting. As UVU current Master of Accountancy Student, she is working for a leasing company in Draper, looking forward to finishing successfully her masters program.

Jennifer Jamieson is a current student in the MAcc program at UVU. She is presently studying to sit for the CPA Exam while finishing her degree.

Jennifer developed her passion for taxation during an internship at a CPA firm, Strong Belnap Helmers, in her hometown of Reno, Nevada. She was also able to perform several attestation services during her time there and enjoyed being able to explore two distinct paths in the accounting field. This past tax season, Jennifer was asked to assist a neighboring CPA firm in Reno and continues to help this firm remotely while attending her graduate studies. Doing so, has allowed her to learn two separate tax programs and serve a greater number of clients.

Oliver turned his focus to tax after completing a tax internship with a small local firm, Fenton, Collins & You. Once the internship was completed, Oliver was asked to stay on part-time until he graduates. He has assisted with taxes, tax planning, bookkeeping, and payroll. Oliver continues to work with his supervisors to learn how to consult and plan with clients for their future. Upon graduation, Oliver will work full time as a Tax Associate for Haynie and Company.

Cheney has been with Smith's Food and Drug for seven years in various positions, including department assistant management and department management. He created the organizational structure for inventory at his store which has reduced excess inventory and increased productivity. This has earned him a recognition for high-quality customer service. During his time at Smith's, he also worked with a small local company to clean up the company books, and he created sales reports that broke down item sales and comparative analysis over multiple years of sales.
Cheney is an eagle scout and created a project to help young teenage moms by redoing the entire landscaping outside a halfway house to create a safe, calming area where the moms and kids could spend time together. He was also a swim captain of his high school team during his senior year and led the men's team to the State finals.

After completing her undergraduate degree, Angela worked as a senior accountant for a fortune 500 company. Angela was hired to help implement processes and procedures for the new internet bank division. There, she helped manage the fast growth of the bank and intake of billions of dollars in deposits in less than 2 years. Angela also assisted the controller in 10Q and 10K financial reporting, ad hoc reporting, and bank reconciliation. Mainly, she oversaw Call Report preparation and providing a daily flash report to senior executives.

Christian Hall is employed full-time at Revere Health, a healthcare provider for the western United States, as a Payment Posting Research Specialist. Parker has managed to graduate with his bachelor’s degree in accounting in four years, with one of those years being away from school for the whole year when his son was born. Parker came back to school full time in Spring 2019 as a freshman with 27 credits and tackled 16-20 credit semesters so that he could graduate as a senior in Summer 2020, all while working part time to support his wife and son.

Jeremy Picardo is an accountant who works with Alder Holdings and oversees much of the monthly closing process for them, as well as for many of their entities.
Jeremy believes that knowledge combined with hard work is the key to success in your career, in life, and can help you accomplish any goal.
In addition to his current position, Jeremy has experience in public accounting at a tax firm working on over 1000 returns for individuals and businesses across the country.
After finishing his undergrad, a year early, Jeremy jumped immediately into the accounting industry and decided to start working toward obtaining his master’s degree as well. He knows that his education and experience will prepare him to become a CPA.

Ian Pringle is a graduate assistant working with UVU Accounting faculty David Waite. He is studying to take the CPA exams while earning his MAcc.

Ian is making a switch from his previous job at a financial institution and undergraduate over to accounting and enjoying it immensely.

Matthew Roemer is a Staff Auditor who works with Haynie & Company. He works with clients and collaborates with his team by performing audit procedures and prepping companies for annual and quarterly filings.
Matthew believes that no matter how knowledgeable or experienced one is, one can always be presented with new opportunities to learn.
Matthew has performed audit work for companies in several industries, including benefit plans, broker dealers, and both private and public entities. He also has confirmed compliance with ASC 606 and 842 on a number of clients he has worked with.
Matthew hopes to obtain his CPA and CMA certifications and continue his career as an Auditor.

Rachel Rossiter is currently a student in the MAcc program at Utah Valley University and is also preparing to take the CPA exam.
Rachel believes that being an effective accountant isn't just about being skilled with numbers. It's about being a communicator, listener, and willing to put in the hard work. She also thinks having a positive attitude, even when things get tough, makes a world of difference!
Rachel has worked at Mountain America Credit Union throughout her educational career and is currently a part of the Accounts Payable team. Previously, as a teller, she won the Top of the Mountain Award, which is given to the top 1% of employees in sales, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Utah.
Adam is a staff internal auditor who works with the Department of Workforce Services. He helps to provide assurance to the different programs and works to ensure that citizens are using funds in an appropriate ways.
Adam believes in the value of matching one’s ethics with one’s employer. He has seen this as he works to help ensure programs are helping the community he loves.
Adam has continually worked to grow in his competency as an auditor. As an undergraduate, he participated in IIA sponsored Student Case Study competitions, and placed in the top three during these competitions. This created opportunities for him to interview with different companies, including one of the big four accounting firms.
Adam has a goal to earn his CPA and CIA certifications.

Keldon Shepherd is a Controller who works at doTERRA International and is over the financial statements of their manufacturing entity.
Keldonhas taken the time to learn the SAP software and has become a source of knowledge for all others within his department. Keldon was also involved with the transition to SAP for doTERRA and was able to help in its completion through all the difficulties that arose.

Madison Smith is an Internal Auditor who works with UVU's Audit Team to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes throughout the University.
Madison believes that expanding our knowledge and gaining experience is important in both our professional and personal lives.
Madison has managed to graduate early with her bachelor’s degree in three years while working part-time. Upon graduation Madison chose to go directly into her MAcc so that she can start her career as soon as possible.
Madison worked in industry accounting for three years and gained experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable. She is currently interning in internal audit and plans on seeking employment at an accounting firm. She is a recipient of the CMA scholarship and plans to obtain both her CMA and CPA.

Ryan Tribe is a Staff Accountant who works with Ernst & Young to perform audits.
Ryan knows that accounting is an excellent career with a great segway into the rest of the business world.
Ryan has beat cancer and holds this as one of his hardest but most influential experiences in his life.
Ryan is working towards his CPA certification and hopes to have it by August of 2021.

Stephanie Wolfley is currently a UVU MAcc student and is preparing to become a CPA. Before returning to school, Stephanie's had the opportunity to be a full-time mom and a volunteer in her community. She has also held executive assistant and property manager positions.
Stephanie believes understanding accounting means understanding business. CPA's and accountants are valuable because as they take care of the financial side of a business, the executive team can more fully focus on overall company goals and objectives.
Stephanie has accepted a job and is looking forward to joining Squire & Company's advisory team following graduation.

Tanner Woodland is currently a full-time Staff Accountant/Controller for a startup tech firm called Teleira. His duties involve bookkeeping, AR, AP, payroll, and month-end closing. He is looking to complete the UVU MAcc Program this Spring. Eventually, he hopes to sit for the CPA exam.
Tanner believes that hard work and due diligence are critical to success. He also believes effective communication enables work to flow efficiently and accurately through teams and firms.
Throughout much of his undergraduate accounting core, Tanner worked full-time while also balancing being a full-time student. In the spring semester of his senior year, Tanner worked for BKD, LLP, as an audit intern. While interning, Tanner learned audit methodology and processes. He loved his time there and will be seeking more opportunities in public accounting as he finishes his MAcc.

Raine is currently working as a graduate assistant for the UVU Accounting faculty. She helps students to succeed in their courses.
Raine believes that everyone should be treated with respect and kindness.
Raine did an audit internship with KPMG Atlanta in the Japanese Practice over the summer, she has accepted a full-time offer for fall of 2021.

Miki Young is pursuing a MAcc degree at Utah Valley University. Miki is studying for the Audit section of the CPA Exam to prepare to become a CPA.
Miki believes that her life experience would be a positive contribution to any working environment. She also believes in the importance of having a good balance in her work and life.
Currently Miki is interested in doing a part-time internship until she graduates and then plans on working full-time after graduation. In Japan, she operated an English school for 18 years. It required student care, communicating with the students and their parents, managing schedules, and counseling the students.

Kyle Crown is a salaried consultant who works with companies across Utah County to provide support for recurring projects or long-term interim work, when staff continuity is imperative.
Kyle knows that the experience he has gained through his accounting career will be able to benefit more companies and industries that require additional interim support.
Kyle was the sole accountant for two government contracting companies handling nearly all the accounting cycle work. He not only handled the day-to-day and month-to-month accounting but learned how to quickly adapt as new contract structures and challenges arose. He also volunteers monthly to teach QuickBooks to small business owners in the Utah County area through the UVU Small Business Development Center.

In 2019, he earned the Certified Equity Professional (CEP) designation through the CEP Institute at Santa Clara University, where he developed his interest in accounting.

Derek Hansen is an accountant who works with individuals and businesses in preparing financial information and improving processes.
Derek believes that understanding accounting is the key to progress as a business and as a society. Accountants should be trustworthy, committed, kind, and hard working to achieve success in professional and personal endeavors.
Derek works as an accounting clerk at Old Mill Brick LLC and primarily handles transactions related to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. In addition, Derek works with the Accounting Manager and CEO in closing the monthly financials as well as presenting financial information to management monthly.
Derek is certified in Microsoft Excel and proficient in QuickBooks. He is working toward being certified as a CPA.

Jared is a trained Loan Underwriter who has worked with local companies to help them get started or to take on large projects.
Jared built an online retail store from the ground up during his final undergraduate semesters. This experience has been vital to the development of his business acumen and management skills. Jared is a practiced insurance agent secretary, property manager shadow, pricing and business model consultant, and student of the German language.

Shane Williams is a staff accountant at England Logistics, who works directly with the corporate controller and other members of the finance department to reconcile brokerage accounts and approves ACH’s to be sent to carriers.

Benjamin has been involved at the forefront of a relatively new accounting firm, helping create proficient and accurate processes for the financial services provided. Jackson entered the professional workforce a little later in life than most. After five years as a scout in the Army, Jackson decided it was time to pursue a different but still rewarding course of education and work.

Josh Jackman is an accountant who works with Vivint Smart Home to manage and reconcile the company's revenue accounts and corporate credit card payable accounts.

Carson believes that organization, attention to detail, and using data to solve financial problems are the most intriguing elements of being an accountant. He is striving to increase his knowledge of accounting, finance, and tax law, to help individuals and businesses make beneficial decisions, which has been his passion ever since he began his education in accounting.
Carson has completed a tax internship during the 2020 tax season at a CPA firm in California, along with an accounting internship for a community bank in 2019. These internships gave him experience providing tax services for individuals, partnerships, and corporations. Doing financial accounting while working at the bank, gave him exposure to multiple assignments, such as bank security projects, handling accounts payable, assistance in loan underwriting, etc.
Carson is experienced with Excel, along with database and data visualization software such as Tableau, Access, and Alteryx.

Christian Larsen is an Accountant/ Payroll Specialist who works with Pleasant Grove City to ensure accurate biweekly payroll and assists with miscellaneous accounting projects.
Christian knows the accuracy of the work he performs is a critical function of the City’s Finance Department. He also recognizes the importance of integrity in the accounting field.
Christian implemented a new timekeeping program within the City and is working to improve several of the City’s processes.
The improvements Christian suggested and implemented in 2019 resulted in him earning the 2019 Innovator of the Year award from Pleasant Grove City.

Jessica Larson is a Senior GL Accountant who works for Stampin' Up! to maintain the accuracy of financial data and statements.

Jessica has worked in the Accounting field for over four years and is planning to complete the Master of Accountancy program as a part-time student in the next couple years.

Julie Rivers is a Financial Specialist/Office Manager for Alpine School District. She coordinates with school administrators to organize and resolve financial, calendaring, and registration issues for local elementary school children.
Julie believes that a smile and a personal interaction with each administrator, teacher, or child will build the right level of trust and a relationship that will enhance learning, increase productivity, and sponsor cooperation. She feels that a collaborative atmosphere works to create greater understanding by all participants and an increased likelihood of success in achieving stated goals. This worked to her advantage in the first year of her current employment when she received the Employee of the Year award.
Julie's greatest achievement was raising 5 wonderful children. Along with achieving a lifelong goal of earning a master’s degree, she hopes to set an example for her children and show them that when you work hard you can achieve your goals.

Alison is a student focused on obtaining her Master of Accountancy from Utah Valley University. Alison believes accounting should be practiced ethically and with integrity. She believes the world is always in need of good people with the desire to help others. Alison has completed an internship with PwC and has accepted a full-time offer with PwC in their Technology Consulting practice, beginning Summer/Fall 2022. She enjoys integrating technology with accounting principles, automating tasks to increase efficiency, and developing her technology skills. Alison has a goal of obtaining both her CPA and CFE license after graduating from UVU. Alison holds a Bachelor’s in Accountancy from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Garrett Gneiting is an R&D Tax Incentives Associate at Eide Bailly LLP, who works
with business owners across a variety of industries throughout the United States to
help them evaluate, determine, and substantiate their research and development tax
credits.
Garrett is passionate about people and believes that success can be measured
by the number of people you have positively impacted. He values relationships with
his family, friends, peers, and clients.
Garrett began his career in accounting as a seasonal tax administrator
for Eide Bailly LLP in 2018 while pursuing his undergraduate degree. As a result of
his work ethic and performance, Garrett secured his current position as a member of
Eide Bailly's National Tax Office in January 2020. He recently completed his fourth
busy season at Eide Bailly.
In his free time, Garrett participates as a member of the World Axe Throwing
League (WATL). He currently ranks 9th on the WATL Pro League Circuit and recently
placed 5th at the 2020 World Axe Throwing Championship.

and Business Management from Utah Valley University. Garrett is currently pursuing
his Master of Accountancy at Utah Valley University with plans to earn his CPA license
in the future.
Jacob has worked at Progress Manufacturing, Inc. since September 2020 as an accounting intern. Jacob holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University. He is expecting to graduate with his Master of Accountancy in May 2022.
Jesus Munoz is an Accounts Payable Clerk who works with Sunrun to complete payments and control expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices. Jesus Munoz believes that the best and quickest way to achieve success is by helping others succeed. He believes that by surrounding yourself with the right people, one will be able to achieve their goals and become a better individual. Jesus Munoz has worked as an intern for Ernst and Young out of the Salt Lake City office. He plans to start full-time at Ernst and Young as Staff Accountant during the Summer of 2022. He is currently interested in private client services which provides tax advice and reporting for owners, families, and private businesses. In addition to his master’s program, Jesus is currently preparing to pass the CPA exam. Jesus Munoz loves to spend time with his family, play golf in his free time, and he and his wife are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child, a baby girl, next year. Jesus Munoz holds a bachelor’s in accounting from Brigham Young University.
Juan Lopez Amezcua is a financial accountant who works with Rain International to review and consolidate financial statements from their corporate subsidiaries as well as perform commissions expense analysis for US, Canada, and UK. Juan knows that business analytics is a key aspect of a corporation’s success and having the skillset to match its demands is fundamental as businesses become more digital. Juan has secured a full-time offer with EY as a tax associate upon graduation. His previous experience in multiple tax-related internships and volunteer work has enabled him to pursue a career as a tax planning and advisory professional in the future. Juan is expecting to start the CPA process upon graduation. Juan holds a BS in accounting from Brigham Young University.
MaryLynne Robinson is currently working as the Office Manager at Mirasys LLC. She primarily works with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, however she also assists the CEO in other financial matters as well. MaryLynne believes that through hard work all things are possible.She applies this to all aspects of her life. MaryLynne has worked in various accounting positions over the last seven years, including general bookkeeping and individual income tax preparation.MaryLynne holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Utah Valley University.
Reinhard is an Audit Administrative Assistant at Tanner LLC, where he helps finalize client deliverables and assists with audit meetings. He has also accepted a full-time job offer from Tanner as an Audit and Business Advisory Associate next spring, upon completion of the Master of Accountancy program. Reinhard believes that the best way to lead is by being prepared and looking for opportunities for empathetic service. He loves working in a team setting and is excited to provide value professionally in a manner that aligns with his personal mission statement of serving others.Reinhard has experience working in the Trade Compliance Center at KPMG where he helped clients navigate international trade agreements and tariffs. He has built skills in Free Trade Agreement validation as well as Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification. He also has 5 summers of door-to-door sales experience, selling lawn care and pest control services, where he learned grit and perseverance.Reinhard is Excel certified and has limited experience with Alteryx, R Studio, Python, Lucidchart, Tableau, and Financial Force. Ryan Fife currently works as a Graduate Assistant on UVU campus assisting Professor Kari Olsen, and the Dean’s Office of the Woodbury School of Business. Ryan is assisting the business school renew their accreditation, and helps Professor Olsen develop coursework, build his repository, and assist in research projects. Ryan believes that dedication, hard work, and the right network can take you anywhere you want to go professionally and personally. He knows that there is something to learn from everyone, and that we should all take advantage of the experience of those around us to help us grow. Sam Dean is an accounting professional who works with small businesses to improve financial performance. Sam knows helping businesses improve financially can be difficult, but he wants to help others succeed. Sam has worked as a graduate assistant at Utah Valley University helping students understand the fundamentals of financial and managerial accounting. Sam is a future Certified Public Accountant and is working towards receiving additional certifications as well. Tanner Lewis has secured an associate position with PricewaterhouseCoopers beginning in 2022. Tanner is working toward his CPA license. Tanner holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting with Utah Valley University and is currently completing his Master of Accountancy with UVU as well.
Zade Bennett is a current MAcc student who is preparing to become a CPA. Zade is als ocurrently working as a graduate assistant for Professors Josh Cieslewicz, Michelle Rankin, Dave Witesman and Aaron Bartholomew. He is excited to work in audit at a public accounting firm after graduating with his master's degree. Zade believes that value can be brought to society by accountants through integrity and trustworthiness in their work. Zade has interned with Ernst & Young in Los Angeles, CA, and will be returning there after completing the MAcc program as a full-time Audit Associate. He has also worked at The Accounting Guys performing outsourced accounting work. Zade holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Utah Valley University.
Ariane Van Der Watt is currently working for Eide Bailly in their tax department while studying at UVU to complete her MAcc degree. Her goal is to become a CPA and work in the tax industry.Ariane believes that it is important to work hard and do your personal best while striving to learn every day. There is always room for growth and improvement in the accounting world!Ariane interned for Eide Bailly over the 2020 tax season, then, after graduating in the top 5 of her class at BYU-Idaho, Ariane continued to work with Eide Bailly. After completing her MAcc she will start as a full-time associate with Eide Bailly. Austin Harris is a Budget Analyst for Alpine School District. He works with district administrators and state officials to design and manage fiscally responsible budgets, to support the education of k-12 students in Utah.Austin believes ethicalaccountants are critical to maintain transparent disciplined spending of taxpayer dollars. Children's education is important to every community, and everyone is invested in their success.Austin secured a full-time position at Alpine School District while completing his bachelor's degree. Steven believes that change is the only constant. This was illustrated when he made a career change from working in the film industry since 2008 to going back to school to study accounting at Utah Valley University. After graduating with his BS in accounting, Steven transitioned into pursuing a master’s degree in accounting also at Utah Valley University. With the Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) CPA exam behind him, Steven is balancing a full-time school schedule, studying for the remaining CPA exams, and being a husband and father all at the same time. In conclusion, Steven said, “If I wasn’t willing to change or wasn’t surrounded by an amazing support system, I would have missed out on an opportunity to change my life and hopefully the lives of those around me”.
Tayler Anderson is a tax intern at Eide Bailly LLP while working toward her CPA and MAcc degree from Utah Valley University.Tayler believes that finding your passion takes time, as her own education and work experience has taken twists and turns. Afternine years in the dental field, Tayler learned of her love for small businesses, and with her specialization in tax compliance has enjoyed helping them thrive.In her free time, Tayler loves spending time outdoors rock climbing, golfing, and hiking.Tayler holds a BS in Accounting from Utah Valley University.

Holly Bishop is an Administrative Assistant at Village Capital & Investment. She works with both loan officers and the loan processing department to ensure that borrowers have submitted the needed documentation to close their loans.
Holly knows that every experience in life holds value, and although she is unsure of what exactly her future holds, she believes that by doing her best in all her endeavors she will be prepared for whatever life has in store.
Holly is excited to have accepted an internship at the Utah Office of the State auditor and will begin her employment in May 2021.
Holly holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Utah University. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Accountancy program at Utah Valley University and is studying to become a CPA.
Whitney Lopez works with Ageless Holdings tracking receivables, managing inventory and performing cost analysis. Whitney really likes this position as it provides her many challenges and gives her the chance to gain experience and become more valuable while pursuing her Masters Degree.
Whitney played four years of college soccer (goalie) and a year of semi-professional soccer with the Utah Arrows. She believes her experiences playing soccer goalie have helped her become a better accountant. To be successful as a goalie requires paying attention to details, hard work and never getting discouraged by adversity, all these principles carry over nicely to accounting.
Whitney graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a B.S. in Accounting. Whitney holds an AA General Education degree from Lower Columbia College. She is currently working on her master’s degree in Accounting at Utah Valley University.
Olivia Mooney is a CustomerLead/Bookkeeper at KPMG Spark, who helps many different companies prepare financial statements. She works with various business management and bookkeeping software programs daily. She also helps clients with month end close items and adjusting journal entries.
Olivia believes honesty and determination are necessary in the workplace. She enjoys developing meaningful professional relationships with her clients and coworkers. She has been working on improving the training program at Spark to increase efficiency and enhance client satisfaction.
While working through her undergraduate degree, Olivia was also an active member of Beta Alpha Psi. Olivia believes it is vital to be able to apply the knowledge obtained in the classroom to a professional setting.
