The Mathematics Department has voted to adhere to the following calculator restrictions on classes. All restrictions apply only to exams (there is no general restriction against calculators on homework).

Note: The calculator policy is specific to the textbook, A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elem. Teachers 10e, Billstein, and may change if a new text is adopted. 2010 - Instructors may allow scientific calculators as follows: First chapter on problems solving, Numeration systems, Determining if a number is prime, Euclidean Algorithm, and Compound Interest. 2020 - Instructors may allow student to use a basic four-function calculator only. |

ADA students with a calculator provision MUST be allowed to use calculators on every test at the most lenient level allowed regardless of the test or topics covered or whether you let other students in your class use calculators.
Example:
Math 1040- an ADA student may use a graphing calculator
Math 1060 - an ADA student may use a scientific calculator
Math 1210 - an ADA student may use a graphing calculator with minimal capabilities
such as the TI-83 and TI-84, but not one with a CAS such as the TI-89
To fail to allow this provision is illegal and puts the instructor & school at risk for lawsuits. Adjunct faculty who fail to follow the calculator policy as described in this policy will be warned and possibly terminated if they are unwilling to comply with this policy.
