MATH 100R - Math Leap

This is a problem-solving course designed to prepare students for further study in Science, Technology, Engineering, Education, Business, Statistics and Mathematics (STEM).

In particular, the course is intended for students preparing to enroll in any of the courses MATH 1040, MATH 1050, MATH 1060, MATH 1090, MATH 1100, MATH 2010, MATH 2040, MATH 1210 or MGMT 2240 who also desire to improve their problem solving skills and/or placement level.

The curriculum is tailored to the unique strengths and weaknesses of students, providing group problem solving activities, along with an individual assessment and study plan for mastering target material. Requires mandatory attendance and a minimum number of hours per week logged into a learning module, with progress monitored by an instructor.  The course utilizes ALEKS PPL and Learning Modules.

Offered each block. One-credit hour. May be repeated (up to 4 credit hours earned).

Graded as Credit/Non-credit.


Upon successful completion, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate improved problem solving ability in identified areas of mathematics.
  2. Communicate full and cogent solutions, including appropriate justification, to problems in target areas of mathematics.
  3. Explain essential concepts in desired areas of mathematics. 
  4. Demonstrate improved skill in desired areas of mathematics.
  5. Demonstrate readiness for target mathematics courses required for desired STEM program.
  6. ** Persist in the face of difficulty.
