Welcome! If you are a student in a professional preparation program that leads to a professional license, you are at the right place. Utah Valley University provides students with programs intended to prepare students for future roles and endeavors. Additionally, UVU offers professional preparation programs designed to meet the specific educational prerequisites for obtaining initial licensure in Utah. This means that when you graduate from one of UVU’s professional preparation programs, you will have met the minimum educational qualifications to apply for a Utah license.
If you are seeking to obtain licensure or certification outside of Utah, that may or may not be guaranteed, as each state may have very specific requirements that do not align with Utah’s licensure or certification requirements. To review whether or not the program you are completing, or desire to complete, meets the educational requirements in the state you are located in, please click the following discipline you are interested in.

If you need assistance in obtaining specific information regarding state licensure/certification requirements and/or additional state contact information, please send a message to UVU’s Associate Director of Online Learning and Professional Licensure Compliance. While Utah Valley University has created professional preparation programs, which are programs that are designed to lead to Utah licensure or certification, Utah Valley University has also created post-licensure and pre-licensure programs that are not designed to lead to licensure or certification. Instead, post-licensure programs are designed for career advancement and require a professional occupational license in that field in order to enroll in the program. Additionally, pre-licensure programs assist students in advancing toward the following degree where that degree is designed to lead to professional licensure. Therefore, post-licensure and pre-licensure programs are not designed to lead to a professional license but instead support students by providing skills and knowledge to support them in their desired career field.
When you are taking courses online, where you live—the place from which you access academic resources, your location—matters. UVU must be authorized (or otherwise allowed) by your state to deliver your academic program to you. Students who begin an online program while residing in a state in which UVU is authorized to offer online programs need to be aware that moving to a state in which the University is not authorized to offer the program may have negative consequences. While the University attempts to obtain authorization everywhere its students live, moving to a state in which the University is not authorized could result in the loss of eligibility for certain forms of financial aid and/or in the inability to complete the academic program. For more information regarding UVU’s State Authorization status, please view the “State Authorization webpage”
While Utah Valley University is currently in the process of tracking issues related to international authorization and licensure, it is a student’s responsibility to understand requirements related to whether an online degree will be recognized in a country other than the United States, how the collection of student data may be used in another country, and whether withholding taxes (in addition to the price of tuition) will apply. Some countries may not formally recognize foreign online degrees, which may have implications for students who later seek to enroll in other educational programs, or for those who seek employment with that country’s government or other employers requiring specific credentials.
International students considering an academic program that leads to a professional license should first confirm with the appropriate professional licensing board in their country of residence or the country where they intend to work as to whether an UVU online degree will be recognized when seeking licensure or certification.
Currently students are restricted from participating in online courses from any institution located in the United States in the following countries:
Cuba | Iran | North Korea | Sudan | Syria
