What Is Academic Advising?

Academic advising is a collaborative educational process between student and advisor. Ideally, the advisor serves as teacher and guide in an interactive partnership aimed at enhancing the student's self-awareness and fulfillment (O'Banion, T. 1972). This process is grounded in the mission of the institution and college and is a process that is built over the student's entire experience at UVU. On a day-to-day basis, we often assist students with their registration questions, graduation plans, course selection, department-specific career options, and much more.
